Rocky Comics's Story
11-year-old Rocky has been through a lot-and he's come out the other side stronger than ever. He was first surrendered to Long Beach Animal Shelter by his family. Then at FFF, underwent a cystotomy to remove a giant bladder stone, and just a week later needed emergency surgery to untwist and tack his stomach after bloat. He's fully house-trained and has never had an accident in the home. Rocky weighs 41 lbs.<br/><br/>Rocky is playful, athletic, and full of life. He loves fetch and can hike 3-5 miles without slowing down. When home alone, he's perfectly content to snooze on the bed. He can be independent-sunbathing in the yard or resting in another room-but he also has a soft, needy side. He surprised us by becoming a lap dog, happily resting his head in our laps and sleeping with us at night.<br/><br/>After everything Rocky has been through medically, we saw a shift in him. It's almost as if those scary experiences left him a little guarded-more sensitive about touch and quicker to become defensive if he feels uncomfortable. Because of this, Rocky needs an adult-only home with someone who understands canine body language and will respect his space while trust is building.<br/><br/>The best way to think of Rocky is as a roommate at first. Give him patience, clear boundaries, and mutual respect, and he will meet you there. And once you've earned his trust? His affection is incredibly special-soft head rests in your lap, quiet companionship, and the sweetest moments that feel truly deserved.<br/>He's great with other dogs, even around toys or furniture, and has shown calm curiosity toward cats through a barrier.
