Rocky's Story

Rocky:

Meet Rocky! Rocky is an approximately 5 year old shihtzu. Found as a stray in Chester, Rocky has thrived in his foster home while learning how much fun it can be to have an older sibling showing you the ropes, including zoomies!

Rocky is as sweet as they come. He loves being with his people and playing with squeaky toys when the mood strikes him.

He absolutely loves to cuddle and sit on his humans’ laps. He enjoys a good nap but equally enjoys outside time whether taking a walk or doing zoomies in the yard. He does well on a harnessed leash.

Rocky can be bit of an escape artist, so a secure fenced in yard is best for him. Rocky can walk down a flight of stairs with treads/carpet, but is working hard to master climbing steps. He has done well learning the “sit” command.

Rocky would love to have a calm sibling to continue to show him the ropes. He would do well in a home where he is not left alone for long periods of time, preferably with another dog to continue to show him the ropes. He has tested well with small to medium sized dogs, he has not been cat tested. His foster mom feels strongly that he must go to a home with at least one other dog in order to make him more comfortable and confident

Rocky is fully house broken, but may require patience settling into a new home with new routines. As with any rescued pet, he may digress a bit while adjusting.

Rocky will require regular grooming to keep his coat neat and mat free. He has done well with grooming and nail care.

When Rocky was initially placed in foster care, he was treated for an infected wound on his back paw which has healed well. He tested negative for worms and has been fully vaccinated, neutered, chipped and receiving monthly preventive treatments.

All potential foster families and adopters are required to fill out an application, both of which can be found on our website. Our foster families are our biggest resource, and the more foster families we add to our family, the more dogs we can save. Our foster families are required to provide a loving, healthy, temporary home for the dogs that we have pulled from shelters who have yet to find their forever families. The rescue covers all medical expenses while our dogs are in foster care. We also require our foster families to work with one of our trainers to address any behavioral problems that develop.
