Rocky Balboa's Story

Meet Rocky Balboa – a tall friendly boy who would love nothing else than to hang out with his people and play with his toys. Rocky is about 68lbs but looks bigger as he’s tall & slim. His paws are big but gentle! Rocky is middle aged and has plenty of energy for playing but also enjoys his relaxation time to watch movies with his people. Rocky is very good in public, likes meeting people, enjoys car rides, happy to go to the kids ball games etc., going to restaurants (particularly if he gets some food too!). He’d be happy to go in an RV or on day trips. Rocky likes easy going walks/gentle hikes and is happy to go walking for 20-30 mins. He’s not a big hiker! Rocky typically does well meeting other friendly dogs. Like many boxers, he can stand tall when he sees a dog but he relaxes once he meets them.

Rocky is a good sleeper and prefers to sleep where his people are. He really loves his food and will remind you to keep those kitchen counters clear of any food! Rocky could live with another nice dog who doesn’t mind Rocky playing with his toys. Most importantly though, Rocky wants to have human company and hang out with you!

Currently, Rocky is nervous (will bark) when he’s left alone and so his ideal home would either be home a good amount of time, and/or can take him with them when possible. His new home will need to work on getting him used to being alone and this is mostly about being structure & routine, plus some de-sensitization so that he knows you’re coming back. It is definitely not something he should have for life! Lastly, Rocky’s skin (tummy and toes in particular) showed that he had allergies which were not addressed in his former life. After receiving medical care, Rocky’s skin is now healing well and he looks a lot better. For now, he will need some easy at home allergy management and is on prescription allergy meds but we are hopeful that he won’t need these long term.

Rocky is a very special boy and is looking forward to meeting you!

***For more information about this dog and information on how to apply to adopt, please visit www.ncbr.org***

Adoption Process At a Glance:

- Step 1 – Fill out the Adoption Application
- Step 2 – Preliminary Screening by Application Team which includes a Landlord check (if applicable) and vet Check
- Step 3 – Meeting with appropriate boxer(s)
- Step 4 – Home Visit
- Step 5 – Adoption Day

Adoption Requirements At a Glance.

* You must be 21 years of age
* You must have a fenced in yard (exceptions can be made for certain dogs)
* All current pets in the household MUST be spayed/neutered and current on shots (yes, we do call and verify this information)
* Applicants with young children will be required to answer additional questions
* Applicants that rent must provide Landlord contact info.
