Rocky's Story

Hi, my name is Rocky. I am 11months old and was surrendered to the shelter 6/6/26 with my friend Bandit. I was so scared when I first got to the shelter but have been getting better every day. I started making friends with the staff at the shelter when they started sitting in front of my kennel, hoping to gain my trust. I rely on my brother for a lot of things and feel more comfortable when he's around. He makes me feel safe as he is all I've known. I bonded quickly with a few of the staff but am still pretty unsure when it comes to meeting new people. I rely heavily on my person when it comes to trusting other people. I look at their body language and expressions and that's definitely helped me learn who I can trust. I get protective of the people I love but won't react in anyway besides barking. I'm all bark and no bite! I need a family who will understand that I'm young and need a lot of training. I walk good on a leash and love going for walks. Ive never been on a hike, but it sounds like something I would love. I LOVE swimming and have so much fun when the staff here fill up the pools. I'm not too big on toys, as I'd rather just spend one on one time with my person. I haven't been around cats before, but I lived with dogs previously. It takes me a bit to warm up to another dog but once I do, I do great with them. I really hope someone sees my potential and looks past my fear-based reactions. I promise I'm not doing it intentionally. I've had a rough life and am ready to learn how to love again. And to finally feel loved.

Montgomery County SPCA's Adoption Policy
At the Montgomery County SPCA, we are dedicated to finding responsible, forever homes for all the pets in our care. To that end, we have created a thorough adoption process which helps us achieve this goal. This process includes a check of veterinary history records on any pets you currently have, and a home visit. If you rent your home, we require written proof (letter or lease) from your landlord that you are allowed to have pets. We undertake this kind of thorough review to ensure that animals who have already been discarded at least once will never have to experience this again.
