Rocky's Story

YOU MUST HAVE AN APPROVED APPLICATION IN ORDER TO MEET OUR PETS.

Meet Rocky!

Rocky is an adorable Pomeranian, approximately 5 years old and 8 and a half pounds, who came to LPPNC when changes in his previous family’s circumstances meant they could no longer care for him. Rocky was very loved, and admittedly a little spoiled, so transitioning from the only life he knew into a foster home has understandably taken him a little time.

After taking some time to settle into his foster home, Rocky is finally beginning to open up and show more of his personality. He is very much a “let me come to you” kind of guy right now. Once he feels comfortable, he will happily jump into your lap for attention and pets.

Rocky can be a little jumpy if someone reaches for or tries to pick him up before he is ready. If he does need to be picked up, you need to confidently hold onto him until he is securely in your arms. Once he is up, he is completely docile and happy to be held. His new family will need to respect his boundaries and give him the time he needs to build trust.

Rocky was also quite spoiled at mealtime! His former owner cooked his food, so transitioning him to dog food has been a process. Right now, he is doing well with gently cooked meals mixed with some dehydrated food and cooked chicken. We are taking baby steps and letting him adjust at his own pace.

Check out his video to see how adorable he is when begging for his food or is very excited to see you!

Now that he has settled into his foster home and is on a regular schedule, Rocky is doing well with his potty habits.

It also appears that he may never have regularly worn a collar or harness, so his foster parents are slowly introducing those as well. Because leash walking is still a work in progress, a securely fenced yard would be ideal for his new home.

Rocky has done well with several friendly dogs in his foster home and previously lived with two other small dogs. His former family also reported that he was fine with cats. He likes knowing where his people are, but so far he does not appear to have separation anxiety.

He has also done well when visitors come to the foster home, as long as they understand that Rocky needs to make the first move. Recently, he surprised everyone by approaching a visitor on his own, and it did not take him very long at all!

Because Rocky can be startled by quick movements and needs people who will respect his boundaries, a home without children under 14 will be required.

Rocky is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines. He is also scheduled for a dental in October.

Rocky is not looking for someone who will rush him. He is looking for someone patient enough to let him settle in, learn that he is safe, and come to them when he is ready. Once he does, there is a sweet little lap dog waiting underneath all that Pomeranian fluff.

Adoption donation $450

Please note that we do not ship animals. We also require a home visit before finalizing any adoptions so preference is given to applicants within a 90 mile range. You will be required to come to High Point, NC to meet/pick up your new pet.
