Rocket's Story
Rocket is one of those absolutely wonderful breeds we like to call the "hodgepodge pup" - he was born approximately 3/29/06, and we think he may have some Australian shepherd, some retriever, some Australian cattle dog, and some "cute little cuddly dog" in them. Rocket arrived with us on June 11 not very well socialized, so we originally listed him for homes with no small children (he was frightened and skittish around small children and loud noises). He was put on adoption pending to a great adult home, but they needed to cancel the adoption right before he was scheduled to be picked up due to an illness in their other dog. In the meantime, Rocket's foster mom has continued working with him and socializing him, and although he still has a bit of avoidance at times, he is coming along extremely well and we now feel he would be OK in a home with one small child, as long as they were relatively calm and well supervised with the puppy. He continues to be a great dog for older children or an adult, and we think he will make an excellent family member. Rocket likes other dogs, and he should be OK with cats as long as his people train him well (like any pup) and teach him that the cats are part of his "pack." He seems really smart, and should enjoy learning all about the fun things humans do, like playing fetch or running agility courses or frolicking at the dog park. He should be a medium sized dog when full grown, most likely between 40# and 50#. Rocket is the reddish brown and white pup, mostly up front, in the photos of multiple pups on our website. You can see how far he has come in confidence just in the difference between the most recent photos of him playing in his foster home (taken 7-7-06 and 6-20-06) and the intake photos from 6-11-06; every day that goes by, he becomes even more well adjusted! All of these photos can be seen at http://www.forgetmenotshelter.org/Dogs - click on the pet's individual listing. Age-appropriate shots and alteration are included in the adoption donation (minimum $50; more gratefully accepted!) Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you!
