RIVER's Story

A VERY BEAUTIFUL, OBEDIENT, SENSITIVE AND LOYAL GIRL.

It is hard sometimes, given the Petfinder bullet points we must select, to correctly identify a dogs worth. River is so much more than the talents we are given to select from and perhaps a bit more complicated.

If you know Whippets, or "coursers" in general and these breeds appeal to you, then you will adore River.

She is agile, athletic, indefatigable in the field but a couch potato in the home. She will keep the vermin from your yard, but also your neighbors friendly cats, that visit from time to time, the quail you may enjoy and the chipmunks and squirrels that visit your feeders. She will also ferret out the moles, the rats, the gophers, the rabbits and probably the deer, which for some is an attribute and for others, a fault. In other words, her prey drive is firmly intact, her speed unrivaled and her desire to keep a pest free yard for you, a firmly implanted genetic trait.

She has a heart that is boh physically huge, to allow for what she was bred for and emotionally huge, because she loves without boundaries. She is as beautiful, inside as she is out but an understanding of what makes a courser type dog tick, will be needed, to fully appreciate what River offers to her person or people.

So if you are OK with her prey drive, you will enjoy a very wonderful girl who can go on walks to the coffee shop, brew pub, take car rides to the beach or mountains and be enjoyable in all these situations. She has a solid sit, lay down and leave it and in her foster home, where there are kitties, has learned to leave them alone, but needs a very firm and understood human, to make sure she follows through with the rules on this. If you question your leadership skills, she would do best in a home without small, fuzzy animals that like to dart about and trigger her genetics.

River is solidly housebroken, crate trained, responsive, loving, loves to play tag with other like minded dogs in her size and weight class, would thrive in a daycare that pairs up energy and preferences and is beautiful and easy to maintian. She is low shedding, a great travel size at around 30lbs, is ok with playing dress up, and would truly benefit from an owner who is interested in a partnership, not a back up friendship.

If River sounds like your kind of girl, we would love it, if you would head over to our website at www.allmuttsgreatandsmall.org/adoption and submit our adoption application. River would be fine in an apartment as long as her person was active and took her out daily or provided other energy outlets, like daycare of play dates with friendly social energetic canines. Given her prey drive, we are not recommending homes without fencing.

River is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, fecal checked clear of parasitic load and healthy. All she needs is a person or tribe to love her, understand her genetics and provide for them.

Her adoption fee is $350

PLEASE NOTE*:

* We require notes from certified doctors when
requesting a dog as an ESA
*Inquiries submitted through Petfinder, are not the
same as applications submitted through our webpage.
*Yes we do out of state adoptions.
*No, we do not transport. You must be willing to come
and meet the dog and take it home with you.
*Yes we do Canadian adoptions.
*If the dog is on Petfinder, it is still available.
*You must be 18 years of age to adopt
*If you submit questions about an adoptable dog,
covered in the Petfinder bio, we will not respond.
*We do not pick the first good application. We pick the
most suitable application for the dog, out of all
submitted.
*All correspondence is handled via email as time allows.
* If you are not chosen, you will not be notified

For a more detailed explanation of our adoption process, go to www.allmuttsgreatandsmall.org/adoption and read "The Adoption Process" link
