River's Story
Adoptable River is a 5 year old full blooded Catahoula leopard dog. Here is near and dear to our hearts as the founder of our rescue has known River since he was a puppy. His family sadly had to surrender him to our organization when they were faced with drastic unexpected life changes. The good news for River is that he never had to know the hardships of shelter life, but the bad news is that he had his world turned upside down when he had to leave the only family he’s ever known.

River is a large dog, full grown just under 70lbs. Despite never being professionally trained, his previous family did an incredible job with basic obedience. River knows sit, down, and shake. He is crate and potty trained, and walks beautifully with his gentle leader leash. He’s not destructive nor has he tried to counter surf. He is not reactive on leash and loves to go for walks. His favorite activities with his people are engaging in play with toys or hopping on the couch for snuggles. River has been bonded with a handful of dogs in his life, but we’ve noticed that he tends to do best with submissive dogs he does not find threatening. River is wary of children and would do best in a home with no kids at all, or kids that are 16+.

River’s ideal home is one that will be active with him, show the affection and attention he craves, while also providing him with a structured home life. He thrives when he feels like he is pleasing his people, whether it’s practicing his tricks at home, or getting to use his skills out in the real world. He would be totally content as the only dog but may also bond with another dog like he has before. River’s only struggle we have noticed is that he doesn’t like to share his food with other dogs, so he is always fed in his crate. He is otherwise content around the other dogs in his foster home but tends to keep to himself. River would also love a fenced yard and would not prefer an apartment or condo type of living. After being surrendered, he has been learning to cope with being left alone which sometimes results in barking, but he’s made huge progress in foster care. Adopters with River’s breed (or similar breed) experience will be prioritized.

River is fully vetted, AKA he is up to date on vaccinations, prevention, and is neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped.
