River's Story

River's update:
Now that River has been in our care for a few weeks, we know a lot more about him. he definitely has some Border Collie traits but is much calmer and his needs in his future home are more apparent now. River is a very good house for, fully trained. He adores every dog he meets and is respectful and playful at the same time. Some outdoor romping about necessitates the need for a nap and nap he does. He adores snuggling on the sofa with his foster siblings. Currently in a temporary foster home for one week, due to previous fosters commitments, he waltzed in and it was as if he had been there forever. He went on to meet many other dogs and was good with all. He adores play time and has learned to love toys.
River is like a sponge, eager to learn, absorbing everything and thoroughly enjoys his training sessions.
River is being neutered this week and will soon be ready to join his new family.

Meet River, aptly named when he was picked up by Animal Control, having a grand old time playing in a river in the countryside. River likely belonged to someone but no one came to look for him. Feeling rather insulted and a bit sad, he jumped into the arms of his foster mum and decided to look for a new, better home with Hopeful Tails. On his best behaviour in quest of that home, he became friends with the resident dogs, behaved nicely in the house, went to bed happily without complaints in his crate and made sure to give every human he met his best greeting. He certainly impressed everyone at his recent vet clinic.

River certainly looks like a Border Collie with a bit of good old farm dog mixed in. He's smart, eager to please and very focused on his people and would benefit from ongoing training as enrichment. Having come from a rural setting, we are looking for a similar home where there is lots of room to run and play and another dog in the home would be bonus. River has not been cat tested. He currently lives on a horse farm with two older dogs and they get along fine, although River's enthusiasm is sometimes a bit much for them, likely due to the age difference. River is a quicker learner though and respects their space.

Toys are new to River but he is quickly catching on. He actually thinks it's more fun to pick up his water dish with water in it and parade around the yard. In the house, he does well in his crate, sleeping through the night and will even go into it on his own when he needs a nap. He still is a little unsettled in the house and will need someone around throughout the day as he has not been left alone other than for short periods. If you can keep up with River, are familiar with this breed, this is the dog for you. River has only been in foster care for a week, so we are continuing to learn more.
He is up to date with vaccines, and will soon be neutered.
Please check back for updates on this lovely dog.
