River's Story

River is a smart, housebroken, crate trained, and food motivated approx one year old mix.. His foster home has been working on leash skills and he already knows several basic commands. He would do fantastic with a single young adult or child-free couple who have some experience with dogs already and can continue to build on the foundation they have been working on. He is young and has a lot to learn.

Rivers ideal home has:

A dog his size that will play with him and help him learn doggy social skills, his foster home only has small old pups and he wants them to play so badly.

A fenced in yard for zoomies and games of fetch (Eventually he might even learn to bring the ball back!) Hes never attempted to escape the yard but a 6 tall fence is recommended so hes never tempted. He can leap clear over the couch Maybe agility training is in his future!

No small kids - he is fostered with several kids, as young as 4 years old, but is very much a puppy at heart does not seem to realize his own size and strength and can still be a bit unpredictable.

Lots of durable toys like Kongs and Benebones available. He LOVES to chew on toys but does a really good job only chewing what hes allowed too. Stuffed animals with squeakers are a blast for him - albeit very short lived!

Neshama Animal Rescue's Adoption Policy
NOTE: Putting in a Petfinder inquiry is NOT an application! Applications can be filled out at apply.neshamarescue.org How to Adopt from Neshama Animal Rescue Thank you for your interest in adopting a companion animal through Neshama Animal Rescue. Please select the appropriate application below to begin the process. Adoption Process 1) Review our adoptable animals. 2) Apply online by filling out the correct application. (Applications: apply.neshamarescue.org) 3) Neshama Animal Rescue will review your application and be in touch. 4) Neshama Animal Rescue will contact your references, veterinarian, and landlord (if applicable). 5) Neshama Animal Rescue will conduct a home visit. 6) Neshama Animal Rescue will inform you of our decision and next steps. A note about adopting kittens! It is the policy of Neshama Animal Rescue to not adopt out single young kittens if there isn’t another companion animal in the house. A companion animal is another cat, kitten, or a small friendly dog that would get along well with the kitten. This is a rule that many people don’t understand at first, but the companionship of another cat is so crucial to a kitten’s psychological and social development. Adopting more than one kitten significantly reduces the chances of the cat developing bad behavioral issues, and assures a more even tempered, friendly, outgoing personality. If you have a kitten and are looking for a friend for your kitten, we may have some single kittens available, but we will only entertain applications where the kitten will not be a single cat. If you are only interested in adopting one cat and do not currently have another companion animal, please consider one of our many adult cats.
