Ritz's Story

MEET RITZ - PROFESSIONAL HOMEBODY, PART-TIME WEIRDO & FULL-TIME LOVE BUG <br/><br/>Ritz has been with us for nearly a year, and we would really, really love for his person to finally find him.<br/><br/>We know somewhere out there is someone who isn't looking for the dog who shines at an adoption event. They're looking for the dog who will shine at home with them and that's Ritz. <br/><br/>You might wonder how this handsome, short little 40 pound guy has been overlooked for so long.<br/><br/>Well... Ritz is kind of a mess at adoption events. <br/><br/>Can you blame him? People everywhere. Dogs everywhere. Cats. Kids. Noise. Strangers wanting to say hello. Ritz would like to formally decline participation in all of that nonsense.<br/><br/>He's a homebody.<br/><br/>Give this boy a house, a fenced backyard, a pond to splash around in, and his people nearby, and suddenly you get to see the REAL Ritz. <br/><br/>He currently lives with four other dogs and does great with his crew. Dogs he doesn't know can make him nervous, though, and sometimes he's not quite sure what to do with those feelings.<br/><br/>Can he go for walks? Absolutely! He enjoys exploring, but Ritz notices EVERYTHING. A person sitting somewhere he doesn't expect? Suspicious. Kids suddenly racing around? Questionable. Something out of place?<br/><br/> Ritz Security Services has been notified. <br/><br/>Do we think he can continue working through some of these things? Absolutely. But we're not looking for someone who wants to turn Ritz into a social butterfly. We're looking for someone who can love the dog he already is while helping him become a little braver along the way.<br/><br/>His perfect home would have a fairly normal routine, a fenced backyard, and people who enjoy a calmer home life. Someone patient. Someone who understands that sensitive dogs sometimes need a minute to decide the world isn't ending.<br/><br/>And in return?<br/><br/>You get a dog who loves deeply.<br/><br/>Ritz loves attention and will happily stay close for pets and snuggles. He's not bouncing off the walls all day. He's more of a play for a while, investigate the backyard, make sure everything is secure, then climb onto the couch and call it a day kind of guy.<br/><br/>He does well in his crate and goes in when it's time to eat. He's a good boy in the car, too and has been known to fall asleep while gazing into your eyes. <br/><br/>Honestly, how do you not fall in love with that?<br/><br/>Ritz doesn't need a perfect person.<br/><br/>He needs his person.<br/><br/>Someone patient enough to let him take things at his own pace. Someone who doesn't need their dog to love every stranger or attend every event. Someone who sees a sensitive little soul and thinks, "You know what? We can figure life out together."<br/><br/>Because underneath the nerves and the quirks is one incredibly sweet, funny, loyal little dog who just wants a place where he knows he belongs.<br/><br/>Nearly a year is a long time to wait for forever.<br/><br/>Maybe Ritz has just been waiting for you.

Save Monroe Strays's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from us! We are an all volunteer, 501c3 animal rescue in southeast Michigan. Our mission is to place all of our animals in loving, permanent homes. You are not purchasing a pet from us; you are adopting a living, breathing, creature that deserves safety, love and care. Your answers on the application are assurance to us that the animals we care for are going to good, permanent homes. All of the information on the application is confidential. Feline adoption fees - $125 for kittens under 8 months, $100 if over 8 months, and $60 if over 9 years old. Canine adoption fees - $350 for puppies under 1 year, $300 if over 1 year, and $200 if over 7 years old. Foster-to-adopt and Adoption fees are non-refundable. We do not use a first-come, first-serve process when adopting out our animals. Instead, we focus on best fit for each individual animal. The process is intended to ensure a long-term successful adoption for both the family and pet. Dogs can live 10-15 years, and cats can live 15-20 years, so please make sure your lifestyle allows the time, patience, and ability to cover expenses your new pet will need over the years. Will you be travelling frequently, moving soon, or having children? Responsible pet ownership includes as-needed and routine veterinary care, quality food, preventatives, and other supplies. You must be at least 21 years old to adopt. All of our adoptable animals have had a complete veterinarian checkup. Our dogs and puppies are heartworm tested. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, dewormed, and have received age-appropriate vaccines before going to their forever homes.
