Ritz's Story

Meet Ritz - Ready for His Forever Home

Ritz has been in our care for over three months, and this sweet 9-month-old pup is growing up in foster care while waiting for the home he deserves. At about 30 lbs, he's a petite "mini-pittie" with a big personality, an even bigger heart, and the cutest habit of tapping his front feet when he's excited.

Ritz is a fun, goofy companion who loves to cuddle, especially with his foster dog friends at bedtime. He currently lives successfully with medium-to-large dogs and does best with calmer canine companions or dogs with a lower play style. He's respectful of dogs who don't want to play and enjoys simply being near his people. Cats, however, are a bit too interesting for him, so a cat-free home would be best.

This food-motivated boy already sits nicely for treats, eats his meals in his crate, and settles in beautifully for couch or recliner cuddle time. He sleeps well overnight and is eager to please. Ritz shows signs of reactivity towards other dogs when physically restrained in public places. He often shows his excitement at home by wanting to put a pant leg or sleeve in his mouth, this behavior could be perceived by some as agression, however, it's truly him being excited. His foster has been working at stopping this behavior or redirecting to more appropriate items. Because of this, a home with children over 13 would be the best fit. We are happy to provide training support with an approved, committed adopter to help him continue working through things and building confidence and skills.

Ritz has so much potential and is already a wonderful companion - loyal, affectionate, playful, and deeply connected to his people and residents dogs alike. He just needs someone willing to give him the chance he's been patiently waiting for.

Looking for a loyal companion who will love you wholeheartedly?
Apply to meet Ritz here:
https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/SMS/Dog

Save Monroe Strays's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from us! We are an all volunteer, 501c3 animal rescue in southeast Michigan. Our mission is to place all of our animals in loving, permanent homes. You are not purchasing a pet from us; you are adopting a living, breathing, creature that deserves safety, love and care. Your answers on the application are assurance to us that the animals we care for are going to good, permanent homes. All of the information on the application is confidential. Feline adoption fees - $125 for kittens under 8 months, $100 if over 8 months, and $60 if over 9 years old. Canine adoption fees - $350 for puppies under 1 year, $300 if over 1 year, and $200 if over 7 years old. Foster-to-adopt and Adoption fees are non-refundable. We do not use a first-come, first-serve process when adopting out our animals. Instead, we focus on best fit for each individual animal. The process is intended to ensure a long-term successful adoption for both the family and pet. Dogs can live 10-15 years, and cats can live 15-20 years, so please make sure your lifestyle allows the time, patience, and ability to cover expenses your new pet will need over the years. Will you be travelling frequently, moving soon, or having children? Responsible pet ownership includes as-needed and routine veterinary care, quality food, preventatives, and other supplies. You must be at least 21 years old to adopt. All of our adoptable animals have had a complete veterinarian checkup. Our dogs and puppies are heartworm tested. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, dewormed, and have received age-appropriate vaccines before going to their forever homes.
