Rita's Story
Meet Rita! Rita joined us after spending her first almost 16 years with a loving family. She is move-in ready and eager to start her next chapter.

In her time with Miri's, Miss Rita has discovered the finer things in rescue life. The perfect sunbeam, plush donut beds, tender care and affection, and the importance of being FED FIRST. We have learned that if Rita isn’t first in line, she will happily help herself to everyone else’s dinner. She is also an elite level hooman food beggar. Rita has been asking for more affection these days, leaning against hooman legs or curling up on your feet for pets.

Rita does well walking on the leash and enjoys riding in the car. She stays out of trouble when left home alone, preferring to hunker down in the snuggliest of beds until you return. When you get home, she insists on dancing around and wagging her tail. She truly has been waiting all day for your return and hopes you brought some treats.

Potty-wise, Rita is improving on her skills with a consistent schedule. She needs a break every three to four hours or so and benefits from having potty pads available overnight, although she does mostly sleep through the night.

At almost 16 years old, her hearing and eyesight may be fading, but Rita’s snoot is operating at approximately 150% capacity, carefully logging each and every smell away for future use. She can smell dinner being prepared from several rooms away. She can go up or down a few stairs but prefers a human assist to deal with a whole flight. Rita has a heart murmur with an enlarged heart, which does not require medication at this time but should be monitored.

Rita loves wandering around in the yard and believes that every blade of grass deserves a thorough sniff; she occasionally breaks into the cutest little bunny hops around the yard. She’s not much of a lap dog, but if she wants love, she’ll gently place her head inside your open hand for scritches before returning to her favorite bed. The cutest thing she does is her joyous dance at mealtime. It is a sight to see.

Rita's preferences for her new home include: another dog (from whom she can borrow the occasional snack), a fenced in yard, a nice warm comfy bed by a window so she can sleep in the warm sun, people who are home a fair amount, older or no children, a calm and peaceful environment, and did we mention snacks?

Rita will need some time and patience to learn to trust new people and surroundings, but once she's comfortable she will make the place her own and seek affection. If you have a soft bed and some treats to spare, she might be just right for you.

Rita is approximately 16 years old and 18 lbs.

Fostered in Myersville, MD.
Please appliy at MirisHaven.org.
