Rio <br/><br/>Rio is one who'll catch your eye — sweet-faced, soft-coated, and just a little bit photogenic (that pink bow was made for her). She's easygoing and affectionate, the kind of dog who's happy simply being near her people. Don't let her senior status or small size fool you — she's healthy, spry, and has plenty of love left to give.<br/><br/>Rio has been living in a foster home rather than a kennel, so she's mostly house-trained already (though a few accidents in the first days of a new home are always fair to expect). She hasn't been formally tested with cats, but given her calm nature, we think she'd likely do just fine with proper introductions. Well-mannered, supervised children would probably be a great fit too.<br/><br/>The one non-negotiable for Rio: she needs another dog in her home. She's never lived without one, and while she and her sister, Izzy, aren't considered "bonded" in the sense that they must stay together, she does need canine company to feel secure. They've spent the months since in a loving foster home with our Alabama rescue partner, and through all of it, they've stayed exactly who they are: gentle, sweet, and quietly resilient. Now they're ready for their next chapter — and they're hoping it's their last stop, a place to spend their golden years being thoroughly loved.<br/><br/>Rio is available through our foster-to-adopt program only and will be arriving to NYC on Saturday, August 22. <br/><br/>Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella, spayed/neutered and microchipped. Negative for heartworm disease and current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.<br/><br/>To apply for Rio, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue.
