RILEY MONSTER's Story

Hello!

We recently celebrated our one year adoption anniversary with our fur baby and wanted to share how awesome she has become!

January 12 2013, we went to the PG Animal Shelter on a whim. My husband and I fell in love with this cute, tiny, super fuzzy puppy, and immediately put in an application. We had put in applications before at the shelter, but we had never been the first application in, and so we hadn't had much luck in finding a puppy. After many months of trying and failing, we went in on the 12th and happened to be the first application in on her. However, our hearts were broken when we learned that she was on hold due to a pending court case and that it could take anywhere from a few days, to many months for her to become ours, if she ever did.

That didn't discourage us though. After completing all the requirements for the application, we came in every single day to play with her and see her, and although it felt like an eternity, on January 16th (the day she turned 2 months old), we got a call saying she was ours. I screamed with excitement and we went out the next day and bought everything we needed for her. Just two days later, we picked her up and our hearts became more full than we could ever imagine.

After reading her medical history, we were shocked. She had been removed from a home that had kept her and her sibling in a kennel outside since birth. She had urine burns on her paws from being in that kennel. It was heartbreaking, and when picking her up, we actually got to meet the Officer that rescued her. We will seriously be forever grateful.

The week we brought her home, she weighed in at a whopping 22lbs. Everyone warned us we were adopting a horse, and we laughed because we knew she was going to be big, but everyone was right and that is how she got the name Riley Monster. Picture 1 was taken the day we brought her home, and picture 2 was taken on her first birthday. Picture 3, the left side was taken the day we brought her home, and the right side was taken on the anniversary of her adoption. Picture 4 is just to show you exactly how gigantic she is, my husband is 6'3. So yes, we adopted a horse.

We love Riley to pieces and can't get enough of her. My family members come over more to see her than to see me. She enjoys killing stuffed animals as you can see in picture 6, and sitting around watching tv like in picture 5.

She is honestly the best dog we've ever met. She prefers to sleep on her dog bed, but will sleep in bed if we ask nicely, and even then she prefers to sleep at the foot of the bed. The day we brought her home, she walked to the back door and pawed at it one time to be let our. She pretty much house broke herself. She is so expressive and loving, and we couldn't be more thankful that everything lined up perfectly the day we found her.

She is really the best thing to ever happen to us, and we couldn't be more grateful.

Thank you!
- Kelly and Bill
