He fit in perfectly and is such an easy keeper. He immediately won over my partner by insisting on snuggling with him during movie night, which resulted in me being asked “do we have to send him back?" Typical, “husband and the dog be never wanted”.

Riggs is 100% potty trained and kennel trained. He has never had an accident in the house and he immediately picked up on what door to go to when he has to go potty. While I say he is kennel trained, we have only kenneled him twice before we realized he could just be left out at night and while we are gone and he just lays on the couch. The two times we kenneled him, he goes right in when you say “kennel up”. The first meal time, I fed Riggs in the kennel (to separate from my dogs) and since that first time, as soon as I’m dishing up their meals, he runs right to the kennel and waits for his meal. He will then wait for me to tell him it’s ok to come out once he is done. Even my own dogs aren’t that well trained!

Riggs is very dog friendly! We have three dogs, all females. We have a 14 year old pittie who is more interested in sleeping than playing, a 6 year old lab who is more interested in tennis balls than other dogs, and a 5 year old corgi/chi mix who can be have an attitude but loves to play. Riggs has done perfectly with all three. He interacts with each to match their personality. He loves to snuggle and take naps with our pittie, he leaves our lab alone, and he plays so well with our spicy corgi mix. Our corgi mix did snark at him a few times the first few days to show him where he sits on the totem pole, and he responded perfectly. Riggs has since won her over. Riggs has also spent time with another large male pittie who is very playful and they were so good together! He loves to play and would love to have a buddy to play with!

In true pittie personality, Riggs LOVES to nap and cuddle. When he decides he wants to cuddle, you are cuddling. He will crawl on top of you and try get as close as he can. He also loves to sleep under blankets. At night, he sleeps with our dogs on the couch and he loves to be wrapped up like a burrito. He also a snores. VERY loudly.

Riggs loves to go on walks and is very routine oriented. He knows what times meals are and he also knows we go for a walk an hour after dinner, and he will go stand by the front door when he thinks it’s walk time. He is not reactive to other people, bikes, kids, any wheeled machines. He does get very excited when he sees another dog and will start excitedly barking and pulling on the leash, but we are working on staying calm and no pulling. He is very smart and treat motivated so he is picking up on it very quickly! He does get fixated on rabbits as well, and will try to chase so we are also working on that.

Riggs is a big handsome guy, with a lot of love to give. He is such an easy going, adaptable guy that I think he will fit in perfectly with just about any family!

3/29/26 Temporary Care Feedback: Riggs is the kind of dog who makes everything feel easy. He rides in the car like a perfect gentleman, quietly settling in and relaxing the whole way. Once he’s with his people, his affectionate side shines through; he absolutely loves to cuddle and play, soaking up every bit of attention. During Riggs's kennel break, he handled meeting a “spicy” resident chi with impressive composure, showing very little reaction even when the other dog wasn’t on his best behavior. He was also tested with a cat and would do best in a home without them. Riggs knows his basic commands and is very treat‑motivated, which makes working with him fun and rewarding. One of his strongest skills is “kennel”—say the word and he walks right in, settling comfortably and doing very well in his crate. He’s a smart, curious boy who enjoys puzzles and enrichment, and he thrives when his mind is kept busy. With his sweet nature, intelligence, and eagerness to connect, Riggs is ready to be someone’s loyal, loving companion.

3/11/2026 Building Volunteer Feedback: Oh my goodness, Mr. Riggs is just the best well behaved 8-year-old gentleman! He is still waiting for a foster to open up so I’ve been spending some extra time with him and giving him a break from the shelter. On Sunday, we went to social hour at the Air Museum and discovered Riggs is an excellent passenger in a vehicle, is non reactive to seeing other dogs and that he knows sit, down, heel and stay! He also walks loose-leash great, too. Tuesday, we took a long sniff walk around both ponds south of Horizon school. Riggs posed for pics at the playground. Today, I had a massage and he got to come with to the appointment and waited quietly until I was finished. Riggs showed off all his obedience skills to my therapist. From there, we went to PetSmart to familiarize him to the sights and smells since we will be there for Saturday’s (3/14/26) adoption event from 1-2:30 pm Come and meet Riggs! On the way back to the shelter, he curled up and had a snooze riding shotgun. I just love this guy!To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org
