Riggs's Story

Meet Riggs

Riggs is a gorgeous black flat coated retriever/lab mix. We think he’s around one or two years old. We don’t know Riggs’ history. Since coming in, we’ve helped Riggs decompress and have shown him he’s safe. At first, he was uncertain as if never knowing what was going to happen next. But every day he blossoms and his confidence grows. He’s quiet, very SWEET and very GENTLE. He LOVES being with people. Our team will often go in the play yard with him and Riggs comes up to just lay his head on your shoulder. We’re not sure if it’s to give him or you comfort, but it just works. Being with Riggs is like being in the company of a purely innocent being who makes things better. Riggs loves being petted and seeks the reassurance of people who are kind to him. Riggs is a Velcro dog and is searching for a person or family he can give all his love and attention to. He loves other dogs. He loves playing and is athletic. Another dog in the home may be a good way to build Rigg’s confidence. Riggs would be good with kids. He doesn’t want to hurt or be too much for anyone and he moves calmly. He’ll do best with a patient person, who can help him transition into a home. He will need a fenced yard to keep him safe. The world outside can be overwhelming and he was found wandering. Never again for this boy. If you are looking for a magnificent young dog with so much love to give, Riggs is your boy. He is exceptional and we’d love for him to land softly and forever with a terrific person or family. Riggs will be fixed before going home.

If interested in welcoming Riggs to your family and making his dreams come true, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please use the downloadable application found on our homepage. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) to make sure we received your application. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if local. We may also ask for a facetime meeting or videos if out of state. Applicants must have an impeccable vet history and all pets in the home must be spayed/neutered (if not we’ll need an explanation) and current on vaccines. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals.
