REMI-TEXAS's Story
*PETFINDER INQUIRIES WILL NOT BE ANSWERED. PLEASE COMPLETE OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AFTER READING HIS FULL ADOPTION LISTING. THE ADOPTION APPLICATION IS LOCATED ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application

*PLEASE CLICK "Show more" below to continue reading about Remi.

Meet Remi-Texas, an approximately 1 year old, 36 lb. male Doodle/Standard Poodle mix, who is in an IDOG foster home in San Antonio, Texas.

FAST FACTS about REMI:

*AGE: approximately 1 year old

*WEIGHT: 36 lbs.

*TEMPERAMENT: playful, gentle snuggly; slow to warm up but incredibly affectionate

*ENERGY LEVEL: medium to high. Remi loves to stay active! His perfect day includes a 1-2 mile walk in the morning, a trip to the dog park after breakfast to get his "zoomies" out, and a wind-down walk in the evening.

*FENCE: a physical fence and yard are required; no electronic or invisible fences as we don't think these would set him up for success. He prefers to potty in a fenced yard off-leash.

*COAT TYPE: soft curly low-shedding high maintenance coat. He will need regular brushing and grooming every 8-10 weeks to keep his coat from matting (approximately $120/groom).

*DOGS: yes! 10/10. He loves other dogs and thrives as park of a pack. He needs another playful dog to assist in building his confidence.

*CATS: unknown; there are no cats in his foster home

*KIDS: yes, he is good with boundaries; would do best in a home with respectful kids who understand that loud noises may frighten him. He is gentle and sweet. He can be sensitive to loud noises, but if children approach him slowly and quietly, he becomes their best friend in no time.

*CAR: Yes! Completely obsessed! Whether you are going to the dog park, hitting the coffee shop drive-thru for a pup cup, or even visiting the vet, Remi just wants to be your co-pilot.

*CRATE: Remi is fully crate-trained and sleeps comfortably for 6-8 hours at night (and 5-6 hours during the day). He might bark for 10-15 seconds when you first leave, but he quickly settles down to sleep. His foster family leaves movies or a fan on to keep him company, and loves doing "snuffle time" by sprinkling treats in his crate so he views it as a happy place!

*HOUSE TRAINED: He is 95% potty trained! He is great at walking to the door when he needs to go. Adopters just need to be patient: he can pee for a long time and sometimes forgets he needs to poop too, so he just needs a gentle reminder to finish his business before coming inside!

*AT VET: good!

*AT GROOMER: great! He was an angel for the groomer!

*VETTING: Remi is neutered, microchipped, current on core vaccines and on heartworm/flea/tick preventives. His heartworm and fecal tests were negative.

MORE INFO ABOUT REMI:

Remi is a gorgeous, curly-coated 1-year-old Standard Poodle/Doodle pup who is looking for his true "forever pack." Despite being abandoned by his previous owner to a shelter, Remi has kept the most loving, gentle, and resilient spirit. He is a goofy, affectionate boy who might not have a "whole lot of thoughts going on in his furry little brain," but he makes up for it with a heart of pure gold! Remi's favorite routine? Waking up early, going out to potty, and then sprinting back inside to jump into bed for morning snuggles!

Adjectives that describe Remi:
*Loving
*Gentle
*Resilient
*Sweet
*Loves dogs
*Goofy
*Affectionate
*Snuggly
*Loyal
*Slow to warm up to men

Some of his favorite things to do:
**Car rides
**Playing with the dogs in his foster home
**Going to the dog park
**Walking

THE IDEAL HOME FOR REMI:
Remis absolute dream home includes a confident dog sibling. He is obsessed with other dogs and looks to them for comfort and play (his current best friend is a 70 lb female Goldendoodle). He needs an active family committed to giving him the exercise and mental stimulation he craves.

A FEW 'NEEDS WORK' ITEMS FOR REMI:
We believe in 100% transparency so Remi can find the perfect match. Because of his background, Remi has a few anxiety-driven behaviors that are easily managed with routine:

*Water & Potty Management: Because he was previously neglected, Remi has some anxiety around resources and will drink excessive amounts of water if left a full bowl, which can lead to potty accidents. His foster handles this by keeping a limited amount of water in the bowl throughout the day and regulating his intake before/after heavy exercise. He also takes a low dose of Trazodone (50 mg twice a day) which has immensely helped his anxiety and potty training!

*Mealtime Separation: Remi loves food and will try to push other dogs away from their bowls. He just needs to eat his meals safely inside his crate.

*Excitement Tinkles: He may do a little "happy pee" when he gets over-excited.

*Stranger Awareness: He is slow to warm up to men he doesn't know. When his foster dad comes home, Remi barks until he gets a good sniff, then settles right down. On walks, he may be hyper-vigilant around unfamiliar men, letting you know he's watching them, though he is never aggressive.

*Chewing: He needs appropriate chew toys (he loves bully sticks and Himalayan cheese yaks!) to keep his brain busy during downtime, otherwise, he might find his own household items to chew.

Remi isn't perfect, but he tries his absolute best every single day. If you have a dog that needs a best friend, a fenced yard, and a lot of love to give, Remi will reward you by being the most loyal companion you could ever ask for!

After adoption we ask that you give any rescue dog time to acclimate - the 3/3/3 rule 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months. For 3 days after adoption/transition, the dog may wonder who you are, what the routine is, who the other dogs are. After about 3 weeks, the dog has typically acclimated to your schedule & knows its role in the house. After about 3 months, the dog has revealed their temperament & personality & settled in.

ADOPTION PROCESS DETAILS:
*Please read ALL the information in Remi's listing before applying to ensure you understand what he needs to be successful in his new home.

*Please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL into your browser).

*If you completed an adoption application in the last 6 months & would like for your application to be considered for Remi please email us at rescue@idogdoodlerescue.org.

*You must complete our adoption application fully. If you choose not to answer all the questions in the application, your application will not be considered. We will review your application & email you if you made our short list of applicants for him. Please respond within 24 hours if you receive an email from us about making our short list.

*You can check the status of his adoption at https://www.idogrescue.com/adopt or any of our social media pages. We will change his status to adopted when he is adopted.

*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.

*You must be approved to adopt him before we will schedule a meet & greet. We do not transport our dogs.

ADOPTION FEE: $500

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies & highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting & expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board & train costs, medical/health issues & surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees & our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.

TO APPLY FOR Remi-Texas, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application
:
