Remi's Story
Remi is a 2 1/2 yr old cairn terrier mix that loves everyone and enjoys life. He was found in a ditch, likely thrown out of a vehicle, and came into our program to find a new home. Let me tell you all about him.
Remi is friendly and outgoing – he loves adults and kids, and all the dogs and cats he has ever met. Cairns tend to be strong willed, independent, and high energy little dogs that like to dig and bark, but they are also known to be affectionate and loyal – Remi is pretty much text book. To be successful in his new home, he MUST have another playful dog, and a secure fenced yard to run and play in. His adopter MUST work from home or be home much of the time, because he still needs work on housebreaking.
Remi is OK on leash – he pulls starting out, then settles down....until he sees another dog, then barks and pulls to go over and meet and play with them. He knows his name, but sometimes chooses not to come when called. He will usually sit on command, especially if a treat is involved. This boy would benefit from obedience training. Remi will need approved chew or raw bones to help keep him occupied, and plenty of exercise to tire him out ! Riding in the car with his person is a big hit, just tether his leash so he won’t jump out when you open the door. When tethered, he doesn’t jump around or climb on the driver – he just sits and looks out the window. If you had another passenger in the front seat, he would love to sit in their lap. At night, he sleeps on the bed with his person – he only weighs 15# and doesn’t take up much room.
Remi wasn’t neutered, and wasn’t housebroken when he came into the program. He has since been neutered, and is current on vaccinations. He is trained to use pee pads in the house, but really needs someone that is home much of the time to let him out frequently, and has previous experience housebreaking a dog. Remi does do his business when on walks – you need to be sure his goes when he’s outside in the yard, too, because he gets distracted when playing with his canine pal. Remi is crated when left, and he often barks for about 15 minutes – he is slowly becoming more accepting of that confinement. Remi is easy going, affectionate (gives kisses), likes to cuddle, and thrives on attention. Likes to play “chase” and wrestle with other dogs. Has cats in his present home, but plays a little too rough with them.

Remi loves older kids – when he got out of his fenced yard he ran over to the school because he heard kids outside, playing. Best matched with kids 8 yr and up – way too active for younger kids.

His wiry coat gets brushed/combed a couple times a week, and occasionally the foster will trim the fur around his eyes and have his nails cut, but he otherwise doesn’t require professional grooming. Tested heartworm negative. His microchip is registered to Second Chance. Remi’s adoption fee is $300.
