Red aka Scout's Story

When you are alone and dumped in the wilderness you tend to not trust anyone. We were notified of Scout's appearance and disappearance a few days before the 4th of July. This was seriously not a celebration for this beautiful boy. We contacted the Retrievers and set a camera, but to no avail, this drifter did not appear for us again. Spreading the word and after several grueling heat and humidity driven days, this guy finally gave in after being spotted in a ditch by good Samaritans driving by while he was looking for some shade to cool down.

We were trying to track this beautiful boy for several days, and finally someone had him in their sights. A quick call to us, and we grabbed Pickles who was dumped in the similar vicinity within the same time frame and drove to their location. Upon arriving with Pickles, and a little coaxing, this beautiful Red Tri boy named Scout with the nub of his tail showing a slight wiggle and ears perked as he recognized Pickles scent. He slowly approached her with a little coaxing and herding by the humans, and we were able to loop his neck with a lead and escort him to a cool vehicle to relax safely in a crate loaded next to Pickles herself. Both wiggling in their crates leaning to the inside wall of their crates, where they could share each other's presence.

Welcome Scout to NWMNAR, we have been waiting for you, in more ways than one. Scout is a 2020 edition of Red Tri Mini Australian Shepherd. This boy has been through a lot and is a little shy but is wiggling more and more every day now that he has a place to rest his head and stay cool. This boy has been pretty good keeping his kennel run clean, gets along great with Pickles. He doesn't seem to be bothered by other dogs as well. Due to being dumped near the wildlife reserve his hair was a little matted, but we suspect it has been matted for a while and have had to shave his hips to prevent any sores and help clean up his coat.

Scout will need a future dental appointment through NWMNAR, but in the interim, he is sniffing out his new home. He has since been brought up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, heartworm checked, and now available for adoption. If you truly want to rescue a dog that has the potential to rescue you back - Scout is definitely the boy for you! Give him a chance and watch him bloom!

Fine Print: All dogs of NWMNAR are screened at the headquarters in Ada, Mn until they are vetted. They are then transferred to foster homes throughout MN and some into ND so they can get used to lifestyles with a family in a home. Adoption fee for an adult dog is $300 + Mn tax. Adoption fee for a dog over 3 years of age is $300 + Mn tax., pup/dog1 year to 3 years is $400 + Mn tax. Under 1 year of age $500 + Mn tax.

Free adoption applications can be found on our website at: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/NMA/Dog.

Because NWMNAR is not a public shelter, meet and greets do not take place until an application has been approved and a home visit has been completed in person or virtually. Meet and greets will take place in a public setting along with the adoption if compatible. Dogs can be met in Ada, MN weekday and weekends, or in our alternate office location in Maple Grove, MN on weekends only.

Once we receive your submission, our application review team will be in touch with you. Please have patience while they look over your application.
