His real personality is still under about 14 layers of fear, suspicion, and “please don’t perceive me.” We know there’s a dog in there somewhere — possibly even a funny one — but at the moment he’s mostly operating as a haunted woodland creature in a dog suit.
Because of this, Ransom will require:
Multiple meet-and-greets prior to adoption
A patient, experienced, dog-savvy adopter
Someone who understands fearful/shut-down dogs and won’t expect instant cuddles, obedience, or emotional stability
A calm home with realistic expectations and excellent management skills
This is not a “take him home and hit the patio brewery tomorrow” kind of dog. This is a “celebrate because he finally sighed near you after 3 weeks” kind of dog. And honestly? Those wins can feel pretty incredible.
Ransom is very standoffish with new people and may avoid interaction entirely at first. Pushing him will not help — he’s looking for someone who understands that trust is earned slowly, quietly, and preferably without looming. Once he feels safe, we suspect there’s a wonderful dog waiting underneath all the anxiety, but his adopter must be willing to fall in love with potential before personality.

Right now, Ransom is extremely shut down in the shelter environment.
