Ranger's Story

When you are 8 years old and find yourself in a shelter through no fault of your own, its tough! Ranger’s elderly owners passed away and with no one to take over his care, he sadly ended up needing a new family. But, Ranger has taken right to being rescued. With a lot of pep in his step he is ready for a new adventure!

Ranger is crate trained, (although he would be fine left out while you are away) leash trained, and house trained! And he is good with dog savvy cats!

Ranger is a sweet, outgoing boy who has never met a stranger! At 55 pounds, he is a great size to have in any living situation. He loves to go on adventures and is confident in new situations. Ranger enjoys meeting new people, whether in public or when they come to the house. He has a medium energy level, is fairly quiet in the house and is normally happy to lay down and nap. He does love going for his daily walk and enjoys playing with other dogs or exploring the backyard. Ranger LOVES the water and will take any opportunity to splash and swim.

Ranger is a very good boy. He does not jump on people, only barks when he sees a strange animal outside the yard and has not shown any inclination to chew on things he shouldn't. He is a mild counter surfer, certainly not terrible, but he is not above stealing food left too close to the counter's edge if he is left unattended. Ranger is crated while his fosters are gone and at night, but this is due to the other dogs in the house than to his behavior. His prey drive is on the stronger side, and he will chase squirrels and other wildlife.

Ranger will do well in an active home that enjoys regular walks, hiking, adventures, and being out in the community. He would be fine in a home with children, although he does sometimes forget his size and might knock over a small child or toddler. Ranger really enjoys playing with other dogs, but he doesn’t necessarily need one in his new home to be content. He would probably benefit from a situation where he could interact with other dogs on a regular basis.

Ranger is such a good boy and is ready to join a family who will give him the best golden years!

Ranger will be available for adoption in RI on, or after, May 8th, 2026

If you are interested in Ranger and are an approved adopter, please contact your Adoption Coordinator to be added to Ranger’s list. If you are a not yet approved, you can find our adoption guidelines and application at: www.savealabrescue.org

Ranger is fostered in RI
