Randy's Story

Meet Randy - the blue eyed baby!

Male | 8 weeks old | 10 lbs | German Shepherd Mix - Manitoba Designer Mutt | Good with Dogs, Kids and Cats | Currently being fostered in Toronto

Background

Randy's story begins in Berens River, where his mom, Stella, went into labour under the most heartbreaking circumstances. Exhausted, emaciated, and barely clinging to strength, she faced a critical emergency when one of her puppies became stuck. She was immediately flown by airplane to Winnipeg—because her life mattered and every second counted.

At the emergency vet, they helped deliver her second puppy. Later that night, at her foster’s home, she delivered a third baby who was tragically stillborn. Through it all, Stella remained gentle… and heartbreakingly weak. She was so emaciated she ranked roughly 2/10 on a body condition scale, and both she and her surviving pups were severely anemic. After giving everything she had to bring her babies into the world, Stella couldn’t even stand.

But this is where her village stepped in. 💛

Our incredible partners at @k9advocacymanitoba took one look at Stella and knew she needed round-the-clock care. They placed her with Eryn—an extraordinary foster who poured love, nutrition, and safety into this fragile little family. Slowly, Stella found her feet again. Slowly, her body began to heal and her puppies grew stronger and bigger.

And when she was finally strong enough, her and her puppies, Randy and Judy, boarded another flight—this time toward her future, into our arms at SPR where they have been able to decompress and are ready to start their next chapters with their furever families!

Personality

Randy is an adorable 8-week-old puppy with big, expressive eyes and a gentle, loving nature. He has moderate puppy energy—playful bursts when he wakes up, followed by peaceful naps and cuddles. Curious, social, and friendly, Randy greets new people with tail wags and happy excitement. He’s already showing how smart he is, especially when food is involved, and his sweet personality continues to shine as he grows more confident every day. He’s great with kids and is respectful and calm around the resident cat.

Ideal Home

As a young and adaptable pup, Randy can thrive in almost any loving home—whether it’s a family with kids, a first-time dog owner, or someone looking for a close companion. A yard would be a bonus, but isn’t required as long as he gets enough playtime and interaction. Since the world is still new and sometimes a little overwhelming for him, Randy will do best with adopters who can offer patience, reassurance, and gentle structure. He bonds closely with his people and loves being nearby, so a home that includes him in daily life will let him blossom.

Training & Activity

Randy is already learning sit, come, and stay, especially when treats are involved, and he’s making steady progress with crate training and playpen independence. He’s still working on house training, with only the occasional accident, which is excellent for his age. With about 30–60 minutes of daily activity—including playtime, short training sessions, and enrichment toys—Randy balances his puppy zoomies with long, cozy naps. With continued guidance, he’s on track to grow into a well-mannered, confident dog.

Summary

Randy is an adaptable pup who will grow into a wonderful dog with the right structure, routine, exercise and lots of love! Smart, food-motivated, and already learning his basics, Randy is a loving little companion ready to grow into an amazing family dog!

**NOTE** All adoption applicants must be residents of Ontario, Canada to be considered.

Apply here to Adopt
http://seapawsrescue.org/adoptionApplication.html

Sea Paws Rescue's Adoption Policy
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. All adult members of the household must attend the adoption interview. We prefer that applicants have lived at their current address for at least three months. This is to make sure that owners have had time to settle into their new surroundings, and provides stability for the new pup who themselves have already undergone multiple changes in a short time. Because young puppies require intensive training and care, we do not place puppies younger than 8 weeks of age in a home. Because of potential behavior/training concerns, we are very cautious when placing young pets in homes with children under the age of five. If applicants have another animal at home, they must introduce the animals properly. We want to make sure that their animal is happy with their selection and that the transition for both animals' will be relatively smooth. All adopters must take the animal to a veterinarian within one week of adoption as Sea Paws Rescue (SPR) does not screen for all diseases including, but not limited to, tick fever and heartworm. All further examinations and immunizations from the date of the adoption are at the adopter’s own expense. SPR makes no health guarantees or warranties. All adopters must understand that there will be an adjustment period and their pet may experience behavioural and/or health issues related to the change in environment. Adopters must seek professional assistance from a trainer and/or licensed veterinarian if they have concerns about issues related to the adjustment period. If at any time, for any reason, a SPR adopter decides not to keep their animal, they agree to return the animal back to a Sea Paws Rescue representative. Under no circumstance will the adopter surrender a SPR animal to a local shelter. In the event of a rehoming, no part of the adoption fee will be reimbursed.
