Raisin's Story

Once Raisin decides you are alright, she stops watching you from the back of the room and starts trying to get a game going. When the game winds down, she would like to finish it curled up in your lap.

Raisin is a black Lab mix puppy, about eight months old and roughly 40 pounds, which is still a little on the thin side for her. She came in as a stray with signs she had spent too much time in a crate. Her stray hold is over, and she is ready to meet her people.

She is playful and sweet, with all the puppy you would expect at her age. She is good with other dogs, so a home with a friendly dog already in it is open to her. She would suit someone excited about the fun parts of a young dog: the walks, the games in the yard, teaching her the basics and watching her get them.

A few things to know before you apply. The noise and bustle of the kennels is a lot for her, so plan on a few quiet minutes at the meet and greet to let her come to you. She has not been around children or cats with us, so we cannot tell you how she would do living with either.

We prefer to schedule appointments for meet and greets to make sure someone is available to spend time with you. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 12pm to 4pm, and appointments outside of those hours may be available based on volunteer availability. Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
