Rachel's Story
Because we are all volunteers, Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus only considers approved applicants to meet our orphans in our foster homes. Please read our eligibility requirements and apply on our website: www.ildoberescue.com/adopt. After an application is submitted, additional inquiries can email dobes@ildoberescue.com.

Rachel is a sweet, petite lady with a whole lot of young Doberman energy! At just 1 year old, she’s ready to play, run, and burn off all that fun-loving energy. Once she’s had her exercise, she turns into the best snuggle buddy who will steal your heart with her affectionate nature. She was adopted a few months ago but sadly returned when she was not good fit for the family.

Roll up your sleeves for this one because she’s got that puppy mindset! She’s still learning what belongs in her mouth, so expect a little mischief – like stealing shoes or nibbling at your hands and legs when she’s excited, or barking to get your attention. But don’t worry, she’s eager to learn and will thrive with an experienced Doberman owner who can provide the exercise and mental stimulation she craves.

Rachel is crate trained, potty trained, and rides well in the car. She’s still working on her loose-leash walking skills and would benefit from continued training in this area. She has a strong prey drive (especially when it comes to squirrels!) and can be leash reactive to other dogs. Right now, she’s best suited to a home with no other dogs or cats, preferably with a large, fenced-in yard where she can run and play freely without distractions. Training with a certified dog trainer will help address some of her quirky behaviors.

Although she was fostered with another Doberman, her reactive behavior towards other dogs at home and on walks has made her a bit of a solo act. Because of her high energy level and enthusiasm, we wouldn’t recommend her for a home with young children.

Rachel loves her chew toys, tug toys, and puzzle toys – but be warned, she’s a power chewer, so they need to be high-quality! She also loves food and treats, making training sessions a bit more fun. While she’s a big fan of playtime and snuggles, she’s not a fan of noisy things like vacuums or leaf blowers.

Rachel is ready for a committed and experienced owner who will provide her with the love, structure, and activity she needs to thrive. Could you be the one to give her the forever home she deserves?
