Rachel's Story

Rachel is a sweet, beautiful, happy girl, with all the wonderful and whacky qualities common to GSP’s. She weighs about 54 pounds. She is estimated to be 6-8 yrs old, a perfect age as she is still youthful and active but has had time to develop an “off switch” and to learn the joys of quiet time and a good snooze in the sun. She has certainly lived in a home, as she is very comfortable indoors, loves to chill on the couch or sunbathe on a dog bed, is house-trained, gentle, playful and loves toys. She likes to carry balls and soft toys around in her mouth and initiate play. She seeks out affection and likes to lean in for a rub.

This girl is food motivated and enjoys supervising all food preparation/cooking. She routinely shares the water bowl at the same time with her foster brother; however we make it a practice to feed the dogs in separate rooms.

Rachel loves being outside as well, and enjoys long sniffing walks and exploring the woods behind our home. She could use a bit more practice leash walking and has improved while in foster care. She does not appear to have had any obedience training but is learning recall and is working on “sit” and “place”. She is as interested as any GSP in things that fly including birds, bumblebees, and butterflies. I think she would be fine with older children, as she is gentle and careful not to run people over when she gets excited.

All in all I think Rachel would make a wonderful companion for a fairly active person, or a fantastic family dog. She settled into the routine quickly and has been a pleasure to have in our home. She would surely thrive with a yard to run and play in with her humans.

Rachel is in Laytonsville, MD.
