Raccoon's Story

I am an older dude who prefers to occupy myself by running around outside and watching people pass by. I get excited when meeting new people and then go back to doing my own thing. Sometimes I can be friendly and affectionate, when I get to know you. I am okay with kids, other dogs, and cats, but mostly still prefer doing my own thing. I do have some female dog friends I like to play with!
I am potty-trained, but am still interested in marking things as mine unless you tell me not to. I can't remember how old I am, but I am told I look around 6-7 years old. Quite a few people have come to meet me, but I am still looking for my forever hangout place.

I was adopted, but they already had a dog that I didn't mesh with. Here is what the adopters had to say about me:

"Racoon (we call him Remy/Remington) is a really affectionate dog that would do well with a passive dog or probably wouldn't mind being an only dog (so he doesn't have to share the attention). He is eager to please and enjoys Zeke's chicken treats and Pure Vita duck and oatmeal dog food. He does sit, shake/paw, down, and leave it, but doesn't stay treat-motivated long enough to successfully crate train. I haven't been able to get him in the crate other than a quick second. We found better success gating off areas of the house and removing things that he likes to mark (my plants, our Christmas tree, anything white and fluffy, plastic bags). I have also considered a belly band while training him to stop marking.

He does really well with our 10 month old baby and is sweet and gentle with him and licks him on the face. We also heavily supervise our baby and don't allow our baby to sneak up on him or climb on him or crawl fast toward him.

Unfortunately, our dog (also a rescue) is a bit possessive of her home and it's making it less welcoming and more anxiety inducing for him.

He has escaped from crawling under our gate a few times but he's always returned. He has pretty good recall when called (responds well to "Remy"). As far as prey drive, he had no interest in our chickens but did go crazy over the deer. He has been doing moderately well on a front range harness on walks; he does pull a little but seems correctable with repetition. Loves peeing on bushes and plants.

He is a wonderfully sweet and affectionate dog that loves walks and the outdoors and kisses/cuddles. Definitely will thrive in a place w lots of outdoor access (yard, acreage) and a friend that will let him chill and be free and respect his space and boundaries. "
