Quill(iam)'s Story

We show our dogs by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting Quill, please first fill out our online adoption application at kcpaws.org. Quill's adoption fee will be $175.

PLEASE READ BIOGRAPHY BEFORE APPLYING
Meet Quill, he is a 4-6 year old Husky/Akita Mix who came to us after spending most of his life on a chain. He has loved getting to live life to the fullest since coming to our rescue and enjoys his daily walks and runs and playing fetch in the yard with staff.
Quill has warmed up well to the staff here at KC PAWS and has particularly bonded with the manager there, it is clear that once he is bonded and trust someone he is a friendly and affectionate dog. However due to his past he sometimes is weary of strangers approaching him. He is not the type of dog that would like being in large crowds or having strangers come up to pet him during walks. He will also need his potential adopter to be willing to do multiple visits with him before adoption.
Quill has met a few female dogs that he has gotten along well with, however he does not like to interact with other male dogs especially if they are his size or larger. He would do best with a female dog around his size. He does need a home with no small dogs, or cats. He would not be an appropriate fit for a home with children as he does not like for people to be in his face leaning over him and children on his level would be frightening for him.
Quill is a very active, high energy dog and LOVES to run. He would be an excellent match for someone looking for a running, hiking, adventure buddy. Quill is kennel trained and keeps his run at the shelter clean. He also loves to go for car rides.
Quill needs an experienced dog owner who will be willing to really work on training and socializing. He is not an appropriate fit for a first time dog owner or someone who has no previous training experience.
