Quil's Story

8/2026

A Quil Update

Its been a little while since weve shared an update on Quil, and we thought it was time.

This sweet boy has completely stolen our hearts. Quil has now been with the rescue for a year, and its been almost a year since he made the journey to Missouri.

When we first learned about Quil, he was scheduled to be euthanized simply because of space. Just space. We couldnt let that be the end of his story.

When Quil arrived, he was so scared. Boarding wasnt the right place for him to decompress, so we made the decision to open our home and give him the time he needed. That sweet boy has been with us ever since.

Well never know what happened in Quils past, but its clear he carries trauma. What we do know is this: with us, he will never have to experience that kind of fear again.

Quil has found so much confidence from being around other dogs. Our resident pack has helped him come out of his shell, and watching his personality slowly bloom has been one of the greatest gifts.

After Shep was adopted, Quil earned a full-time promotion to house dog.

He is still cautious with people, and thats okay. This may be as far as he ever gets, or maybe one day hell surprise us. Either way, we meet him exactly where he is, every single day. His progress comes in tiny baby steps, but every one of those steps matters.

The Fourth of July was especially hard for him. Fireworks brought back all those fears, so we did everything we could to help him feel safe—even sleeping beside him so he knew he wasnt alone.

Some days he lets us pet him with two hands. Some days its only one. Some days we can walk right past him without him moving, and other days he still feels the need to get up. Healing isnt linear, and thats okay.

One thing is certain—he is always excited when we come home. Hes become quite the talker, and he makes sure we know anytime something is happening outside. We joke that the boy can hear a frog fart! More often than not, when we go check, hes actually right.

We still hide the leash until its time to put it on, but hes made incredible progress walking on one. Recently, he went to the vet for his yearly vaccinations. As soon as we walked through the door, he pancaked to the floor. It was overwhelming for him, but with me by his side, we got through it. He even met some kids while we were there. In those scary moments, you can see that he looks to me for safety, and thats something Ill never take for granted.

Lately, hes started coming over for pets without even being called. He still happily comes for snacks, comes inside when called, and his transition to living in the house was so much easier than we ever expected.

We love this boy more than words can say, and we know he has a good life.

Maybe Quil is exactly where hes meant to be. Or maybe his forever person is still out there waiting for him. If that day comes, it wont be a one-time meet-and-greet followed by an adoption. It will take patience, understanding, and a willingness to let Quil set the pace.

But we can promise you this...

This boy is happy. This boy is loved. And this boy is absolutely worth the work.

Meet Quil Our Sweet, Sweet Boy

Oh Quil... you sweet, gentle soul. We dont know whats happened in your past, but we do know whats in your future: love, happiness, and all the belly rubs your heart could ever want.

Quil has just arrived in Missouri after a long journey, and hes still taking time to decompress. Hes already making progress, and well be here every step of the way to help him keep growing in confidence. We believe this boy is going to be just fine in fact, we can already see the beginnings of the handsome, strong, and happy dog hes meant to be.

Hes not quite ready for adoption just yet, but if you think Quil might be your match, nows the perfect time to start the process. Once hes ready, we know this fabulous boy will blossom in a loving home.

Stay tuned his best chapter is just beginning.
