Queso - TRAINED DOG

Queso was surrendered to our organization because he is not appropirate for a home with small children. <br/><br/>He was born on June 21, 2023. He is a neutered, medium-sized dog weighing approximately 35 pounds. He was purchased by his original owner from a "breeder" and is a mix of poodle, golden retriever, cavalier, and cocker spaniel. He has no medical issues and no known allergies.<br/><br/>Queso has a curly coat and requires regular grooming, which is maintained monthly. He does best with a mobile groomer, as he becomes stressed in busy grooming environments such as pet stores. With a calmer, familiar setup, he tolerates grooming well.<br/><br/>In terms of personality, Queso is a very sweet, affectionate dog who loves to cuddle and be close to his people. He forms strong bonds and is happiest in a calm, predictable environment. His energy level is low to moderate — he is content with a 15–20 minute walk and then enjoys relaxing as a couch companion. He does very well with adults and thrives in quieter households with fewer people.<br/><br/>He has always been a sensitive and somewhat fearful dog. He does not do well with young children, particularly toddlers. He appears uncomfortable with their unpredictability and fast, jerky movements. This is why he ended up with our rescue. Queso developed issues with resource guarding towards small children (not adults) involving food, toys, and items he perceives as his — including baby toys and pacifiers. He does not have a bite history -- he gives very clear warnings if he's uncomfortable. <br/><br/>On walks, Queso can be wary of unfamiliar people and dogs. However, when properly introduced to other dogs, he typically warms up within a few minutes and then enjoys playing and socializing appropriately. During his puppyhood, he lived with a cat. He showed playful curiosity and some chase behavior but never displayed aggression toward the cat. His compatibility with cats in the future would likely require slow introductions and supervision.<br/><br/>Overall, he is a loving, sensitive dog who would do best in an adult-only home or a home without young children. <br/><br/>----------<br/><br/><br/><br/>This dog is currently participating in our prison dog training program in Miami, Florida.<br/><br/>Our dogs become available for adoption upon completion of their training program where they meet all the criteria to pass the following AKC certifications:<br/><br/>1.
