Purdy's Story

Purdy's adoption fee has been waived for the month of July!

Purdy’s story nearly ended far too soon. We met her on the euthanasia list at an overcrowded shelter, and it was clear from the moment we saw her that she deserved better. She’s now safe in a foster home and making amazing progress every day.

Purdy is just over a year old, and while her past may not have included much socialization, she’s proving to be incredibly smart and eager to learn. She’s already house-trained and knows how to sit and shake! She takes treats gently, walks well on a leash, and is soaking up everything her foster is teaching her.
Purdy absolutely adores people and forms strong bonds quickly. With that attachment, however, she can be a little possessive of her favorite humans and may be selective with other dogs. She has shown some resource guarding, particularly around food and attention, which is understandable given how underweight she was when we first rescued her. Her foster is actively working with her on this. She does allow people to handle her food without issue, she just really wants to be the center of someone’s world.

Purdy has met her foster’s cat and, after a little curiosity, has been respectful of boundaries. With a confident, dog-savvy cat, she may do just fine.
We may not know Purdy’s full past, but we do know she has incredible potential. She’s looking for a patient, dog-savvy adopter who can provide her with the structure and love she needs to continue blossoming. Watching her grow and build trust is truly heartwarming and we believe the right person will be rewarded with a loyal, loving companion.

If you’re ready to help Purdy shine, she’s more than ready to meet you.

**We do not respond to inquiries sent on PetFinder.
If you are interested in adopting Purdy, please fill out the adoption application at phpdr.org/adopt and email it to dogs@peoplehelpingpaws.org

People Helping Paws Dog Rescue's Adoption Policy
At the time of adoption, all of our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and heartworm tested as appropriate for age, given flea/tick and heartworm preventative treatment and micro-chipped. You must be 18+ to adopt and a Missouri resident. Check your HOA or lease for pet permissions. We do not adopt out dogs that will be living outside on a chain, in a fenced yard or in an outdoor kennel--that's why our foster volunteers work hard to crate and potty train our dogs so they can live inside as a part of your family! **Please note: PHPDR reserves the right to do home visits and vet checks on all dogs adopted through our organization.
