Puna (Gig Harbor, WA)'s Story
Puna is a 2-year-old, 44-pound Heeler mix with beautiful white markings, a gorgeous snow-fox tail, and the most adorable permanent little snaggle tooth. She’s also a recent momma, and now that her puppies are old enough, she’s ready to leave motherhood behind and start having adventures of her own!

Puna is loyal, sweet, highly intelligent, athletic, and incredibly affectionate. She is looking for her person—the human who will become the center of her world and her true ride-or-die companion. Once bonded, she watches her person closely, responds beautifully to their cues, and genuinely wants to please.

She loves adventures just as much as she loves relaxing. Hiking, beaches, camping, walks, car rides, fetch, frisbee, nosework, puzzle toys, tug, and exploring are all favorites. But she’s equally happy finding the perfect cozy spot indoors and curling up for a nap. She is truly the cuddliest of cuddle bugs and loves being told how pretty she is. She even catches flies mid-air!

Puna is a dream on leash, walking with a perfectly slack line as though she’s setting the example for every other dog. She’s house-trained, comfortable in the car, food-motivated, and has a wonderful medium energy level with a natural ability to settle.

She has also made huge progress in foster care and has become a confident, curious, and relaxed pup! She generally enjoys other dogs and has a sweet, submissive play style, preferring chase and gentle play over rough wrestling.

Puna does have some Heeler-style jealousy when it comes to her person. She may "check" or redirect another dog who is barking, being loud, or getting close to the human she loves. She has not shown aggression toward people and has not bitten, nipped, snapped, or lunged at adults or children in foster care. She can live with other dogs with appropriate structure and continued work on sharing attention.

Puna has a strong prey drive toward birds, so a home with free-ranging chickens or ducks would not be a good fit. She has done well seeing cats and kittens.
After spending her recent chapter raising puppies, Puna is ready for her own chapter now and one filled with adventures, cuddles, and a person who will love her as fiercely as she loves them.

Puna is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate core vaccines. She is currently being fostered in Gig Harbor, WA. Her adoption fee is $390.

If youre interested in adopting Puna, please fill out an adoption application at pnwcdr.org/adopt.

Please note: We do not DNA test all of our foster dogs.
