Promise's Story

Promise came to us from our amazing friends at SWAG, who found themselves with too little space and too many lost, abandoned, and court-seized dogs. That's the sad math of overcrowded, underfunded rural shelters: more dogs than kennels, more need than resources, and never enough room for all the lives worth saving.
But sometimes, if enough people work together, the math comes out a little happier.
Promise is a 2-year-old hound who appears to have been assembled from ice cream, butterflies, and your softest blanket. She's gentle, silly, curious, and absolutely enchanted by other dogs.
With humans, Promise has officially graduated from the "drive-by boop and retreat" phase of affection and advanced to the "lean against you and gaze adoringly into your soul" phase. We consider this excellent progress. She's learning that people can be safe, laps have possibilities, and affection does not require an emergency exit strategy.
She's a light, lovely little soul, and watching her confidence grow is pretty special.
Promise loves other dogs. She loves people, too - just with a little more thoughtful courage. And she is determined to make the absolute most of the second chance she's been given.
Please spread the word and help set this amazing girl on the road to her happily ever after! Promise would love to meet you at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, daily, including weekends & holidays.
Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!

PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Animal Aid Society's Adoption Policy
We require an in-person meeting prior to processing an adoption application. If you think one of our dogs could be a good fit, come for a visit! If all goes well and you decide to pursue adoption, you may submit your adoption application. Once your family, including any dogs, have also met with the dog you wish to adopt, your application will be submitted to the Adoption Committee for review. We estimate the pre-adoption process can take up to 14 days or longer. PLEASE NOTE: AAS is committed to finding the best fit for each of our dogs. For this reason, we will accept multiple applications for a dog. In the case of multiple applications, we will select the applicant that is the best fit based on the needs of the dog. Adoption fee for puppy/adult dogs is $300.00. Adoption fee for senior dogs is $150.00. We prefer that adopters be located within 40 miles of the shelter to facilitate post adoption follow up.
