Princess Donut's Story
Princess Donut is taking it easy this summer — vet’s orders!

This 2.5-year-old girl was found as a stray by a good Samaritan and brought to the vet where they discovered her jaw had been broken in the past and healed incorrectly. Unfortunately, she couldn't open her mouth more than half an inch, which meant she couldn't pant like most dogs to cool herself down. ? An added side effect of her condition, Princess Donut also had some seriously stinky breath! ? The great news is, she had a surgical consult at UGA vet and thanks to an amazing vet team there, finally got the surgery she desperately needed (as well as a dental cleaning she so desperately needed) and is officially on the road to recovery! ?

Just a few weeks ago, this sweet girl couldn’t open her mouth more than half an inch because of an old injury that had healed the wrong way and now she is already eating, drinking, and chewing like a normal dog. She went from only opening her jaw ~1/2 inch to opening it a few inches now! Hopefully she'll continue to improve as she heals and works those muscles more.

Despite a rough past, Princess Donut is all heart -- she’s sweet, dog-friendly, and so deserving of a fresh start. She’s currently in a loving foster home, soaking up the snuggles, enjoying soft snacks, and making furry friends while she waits for her forever home.

If you want to help us give this sweet soul all the care and love she needs and deserves, visit our Linktree to donate or follow her journey.
Let’s give Princess Donut the happy ending she deserves! ??

If you’d like to be considered to adopt, the first step in the process is to submit an application through our website: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/. Our adoption fee is $250 per dog over the age of 6 months and $300 per dog 6 months or younger. We accept payment by Venmo, PayPal, or card.

This includes: basic vet care (i.e. basic vaccinations, including boosters completed after adoption, spay/neuter, heartworm/flea preventatives, and treatment for any health needs while in our care), a microchip, a week’s worth of food for the trial-period, and a harness lead.

All in state applications will be considered with some preference given to more local applications. WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING OUT OF STATE APPLICATIONS FOR DOGS SIX MONTHS OR YOUNGER.

We do not have a facility and operate through a network of foster homes. Thus, we do not have a phone number. If you’d like to discuss potential adoptions, please email at adopt@athenscaninerescue.com.
