Pretzel's Story

Meet Pretzel!

This handsome dude is a gorgeous 50-60 lb., 1-1/2-year-old Shepherd/Golden mix (our best guess) rescued off the streets of Southern California with a broken leg after being hit by a car. His rescuers got the surgery he needed, took him under their wing, and he’s now made a full recovery.

Pretzel is an athletic boy who’s always up for an adventure! He’s got a huge play drive and LOVES rope toys and orange Chuck-It balls — those are his absolute favorites. Swimming, fetch, tug, hiking, running: if it’s active and outdoors, Pretzel is all in.

He’s a very high energy guy who needs a high energy, active person with lots of patience and dog experience. He thrives with structure and plenty of daily stimulation. He needs an active home that can give him several hours a day of exercise and enrichment through hiking, running, swimming, or other outdoor adventures. He’s smart, enthusiastic, and eager to engage, but can occasionally get overstimulated — so clear boundaries will help him settle. Basically he’s an adorable large puppy!

He has been staying with a trainer for the past 9 months who has worked with him a lot, so Pretzel has a great foundation in his training. Adopter(s) should be committed to continuing Pretzel’s training and daily activity so he can continue to thrive. Pretzel's trainer thinks he could be a good agility dog.

Pretzel is really a super sweet guy and does amazingly well with other playful dogs and people. He isn’t a cuddler — Pretzel is simply too energetic to want to be still for long! He prefers play and movement over pets and snuggles, and he’s happiest when he has a job to do or a game to play. He’s neutered and up to date on all his doggie shots.

In the home, Pretzel is a big goofball. He does well with crate time, place work and regular rest breaks to help him get calm. He’s made great progress in training and walks nicely with structure. With new people he may get excited at first, but he redirects beautifully with toys and engagement.

We're saying no kitties or young kids in the home only because Pretzel can be a bit mouthy from time to time. But he loves other very active and playful dogs!

Pretzel will be an incredible pal for someone who loves adventure, enjoys training, and appreciates a dog with drive and enthusiasm. He’ll be the happiest, most fun companion for an active person who’s ready to bring out the best in him.

He's currently in Southern California but there aren't enough available adopters in his area who want an active boy, so Summit Dog Rescue is stepping in to help find him the perfect forever home. We can help arrange transport for him here to Colorado if needed.

For more info and/or to apply to adopt Pretzel, send us an email at SummitDogRescue@gmail.com, telling us a bit about yourself, your home environment and your lifestyle. A volunteer will get back to you shortly. Thanks.
