Precious's Story
DOB 11/13/2024
Female Catahoula Leopard Dog
This sweet girl was surrendered when her owner was no longer able to care for her or her housemate. Precious can be shy with new people but warms up quickly and enjoys getting pets. It was stated that she can be very picky about her dog friends and takes quite some time to be ok around new dogs. She enjoys getting out for walks and walks well on a leash. She is ready to find a new family to call her own who will make her an active part of their life.

Precious recently went out on an adventure, this is what the volunteer had to say:
This lovely girl is Precious, and she’s a wonderful reminder that sometimes it takes a second look—and a bit of patience—for a dog’s true personality to shine. Shelter environments can be overwhelming, and what you see in a kennel or during a quick walk isn’t always the whole story.

When I first took Precious out for a short morning walk at the shelter, she came across a bit rowdy on the leash—understandable given all the excitement and stimulation around her. But as there was some time left in the day, I took her out for a little hike along the San Pedro to really get to know her. And that’s when she truly blossomed.

Outside of the shelter environment, Precious turned into such a fun and easygoing hiking partner. She was calm, curious, and clearly enjoyed taking in all the new sights and smells. Yes, she had a few bursts of playful zoomies and the occasional sprint to catch up—she is a young dog, after all—but overall, she was attentive, connected, and an absolute joy to spend time with. Especially considering I was a complete stranger to her, she handled everything beautifully.

Precious did showed a bit of uncertainty with new experiences, which is completely normal. She seemed unfamiliar with wearing a harness and was a little nervous when we first put it on, but she adjusted quickly and did just fine. The same went for the car ride—she was a bit nervous, but honestly, who wouldn’t be if a stranger suddenly loaded them into a car? 😊
