Meet Potato! <br/><br/>Potato is a 2 year old, tiny 6 pound Chihuahua who is quite possibly the most adorable naked little potato around. He has very little hair over most of his body, which gives him an incredibly unique, soft, smooth, potato-like appearance. And before you worry, Potato is perfectly healthy! The vet has determined that his hairlessness is due to alopecia, not mange, mites, or another skin condition. He is simply a very special, very smooth little guy!<br/><br/>Potato was sadly dumped in the overnight drop box at a shelter in Carlsbad, New Mexico. We can only imagine how confusing and frightening that must have been for such a tiny dog. He was understandably very timid and cautious in the shelter environment, but even while scared, he was sweet enough to allow the shelter staff to handle him and give him pets and love.<br/><br/>We know that Potato is one of those dogs who just needs a little time to realize that he is finally safe. Once he gets into a loving home where he can decompress, feel secure, and learn that his people aren't going anywhere, his true personality to start blooming. <br/><br/>Despite being a tad shy at first, Potato is friendly, incredibly sweet, and good with other dogs. He would love a patient family who will give him the time and reassurance he needs to come out of his shell without rushing him.<br/><br/>This little guy has already been through more than any 6 pound dog should have to endure. Now he deserves a soft bed, a warm lap, a loving family, and a lifetime of knowing exactly how cherished he is.<br/>And honestly, who wouldn't want to spend every day cuddling their very own little Potato? <br/><br/>We'd like to place Potato in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.<br/><br/>Potato is up to date on his vaccinations, has been fully vetted, is healthy, heartworm negative, and is neutered.<br/><br/>Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.<br/><br/>Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out 400 dogs each year.<br/><br/>Applications are currently being accepted for our wonderful pup.
