After her owner unexpectedly passed away, Portia came into rescue and has settled comfortably into her foster home, where she has quickly shown everyone what matters most to her: being part of her person’s life.<br/><br/>She has a benevolent, almost regal presence about her. She is confident, gentle and self-possessed—the kind of girl who seems quite certain she belongs wherever her person happens to be. She loves being with her people, meeting new friends, cuddling, sunbathing, treats and finding a comfortable spot on the sofa or bed. One of her sweetest habits is falling asleep with a toy in her mouth. She also genuinely loves her walks and gets excited when it’s time to head out, then is perfectly content to come home and relax with her person.<br/><br/>An easygoing companion, Portia gets along well with the dogs and people she meets. She currently lives with Italian Greyhound foster siblings and has done well with both small and large dogs. She can also be perfectly happy as an only dog—the companionship Portia really doesn’t want to do without is her person. If everyone goes to another floor without her, she will happily remind them that they have forgotten someone important. She does fine in her crate for reasonable periods, but would prefer a person who is home much of the day; she is happiest when she can be near her person.<br/><br/>On the practical side, Portia walks very well on leash and would enjoy a home where leisurely walks can remain part of her routine. Stairs, however, have become more difficult for her, so a home without a lot of them would be ideal. She has very rare or no indoor accidents in her foster home and has done well with children and dogs; her experience with cats is unknown.<br/><br/>Portia has already known what it means to be someone’s much-loved dog. Now she’s ready for a new person to walk beside, a sofa to share, plenty of toys to cuddle—and someone to call her own again.
