Poptart's Story

Poptart was going to be euthanized by her owner on November 26th as she was quite sick and tested positive for parvovirus.

The clinic advocated for her and she was transferred to Mattie's Place and admitted into emergency care and remained there for 7 days at a cost of many thousands of dollars.

She recovered beautifully, thanks to receiving 24/7 emergency vet care and is now fully recovered and doing amazing in foster care.

Poptart was born September 21, 2025 and is a pocket bully mix. She was only 5 pounds when she came into care at Mattie's Place which is very small for her breed and age at the time, so I'm unsure of what adult weight she'll be, but presumably because of her slow start she'll be on the smaller side of a medium dog, but I really can't be sure - 45 pounds?

Poptart will receive her first round of vaccines mid December (she was dewormed in hospital), a vaccine booster and more dewormer mid January and final vaccine booster and more dewormer mid February - at my veterinarian in Unionville. Her adopter will need to take her to these appointments but it will remain at the cost of Mattie's Place.

She will receive her spay in April 2026, again, at my veterinarian which you need to take her to, but at the cost of Mattie's Place. The spay date that will be in the adoption contact is a non-negotiable spay date.

Poptart is a very sweet puppy that is super human friendly and will be absolutely fine in a home with dogs/cats/kids. Because she is so tiny, no toddlers or young kids as she is fragile and could be easily injured. Will she do well with visiting youngsters, absolutely. She's a delightful pup.

She would do well with a canine mentor that is an exceptional dog to guide her through some informative puppy months ahead.

She will no longer be shedding the parvovirus and will not be contagious anytime after December 15th so she's ready to go home after that date.

An adopter that is home most often is important as she's just a baby. She will need continued support with housetraining and some puppy behaviours like puppy mouthing which is super common until their adult teeth emerge, around 6-7 months old.

Adopters with bully breed experience will be given preference as well as those ready to be supported by a professional trainer of your choice so she grows into an amazing adult dog.

FROM THE FOSTER:

Poptart is a super friendly and affectionate puppy who shows consistent trust toward all humans she meets. She enjoys attention and settles comfortably with people!

Loving, gentle, and people oriented

Enjoys physical closeness, especially cuddling and resting in warm spaces

Recognizes familiar voices and responds positively to family members

Not a frequent barker. Vocalization is mainly limited to moments of play or excitement around meals

Displays healthy bursts of playful activity throughout the day, followed by long naps

Enjoys toys, tail chasing, and playing with humans

Feeding:

Strong appetite and currently eating 1-1.5 cups of dry food per day

Potty Training:

Due to a strong dislike of cold weather, Pop Tart is being house trained on pee pads indoors. Over the past week she has shown notable progress and now seeks out her designated potty spot with increasing consistency. Occasional accidents still occur.

Puppy Mouthing:

Responds well to redirection when play becomes overly mouthy. Currently improving with the ā€œOuchā€ cue and chew toy replacement. Understands basic redirection for unwanted mouthy play and is improving daily

------------------------------------

$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.
