Pops's Story

Pops is a 5-6 year old, 8.5 lbs, Chihuahua, maybe mixed with Dachsund. He has the cutest combination of oversized pointy ears, a long little body, and short stubby legs that make him impossible not to love. But beyond his adorable looks, Pops is truly a one of a kind little dog with a personality you’ll remember forever (in a good way).

Pops is quiet, mellow, and easy to overlook at first. He tends to observe the world from the sidelines until he feels comfortable. But once he trusts you, he becomes the sweetest little shadow, following you from room to room, curling up beside you on the couch (sometimes he likes to be on the opposite side though...), and happily inviting himself into bed for snuggles, though he does appreciate the lift up and down if you're around.

He’s wonderfully quirky and socially awkward in the most endearing way. Pops enjoys attention, but also acts mildly offended that you dared to give it to him. He’ll approach strangers for pets, lean into the affection, hop in your lap, and simultaneously give dramatic side eyes as if he absolutely did not ask for this… but also giving you more side eyes because he didn't ask you to stop either.

Pops enjoys being held once he’s settled, though he can be a little stiff and unsure when picked up. He’s a sensitive little soul who thrives with patience, gentle handling, and people who appreciate dogs with more unique personalities.

One of Pops’ biggest quirks revolves around food and water. He’s particular about how and where he eats and drinks. Loud noises and metal bowls are simply unacceptable in Pops’ world. He strongly prefers eating from a silicone lick mat and drinking from plastic or gravity style water bowls. Sometimes he eats immediately, other times he prefers to snack on his own schedule, sometimes he skips the meal entirely. Having other dogs around actually helps encourage him to eat and drink more confidently.

Pops is wonderful with other dogs and would thrive in a home with calm little canine companions. Though he does not need them either, just a good bonus in his book. He’s very laid back, enjoys relaxing, and has no separation anxiety. He’s perfectly content hanging out while you’re at work and doesn’t demand constant attention. He is 99.9% house trained but can have an occasional accident if you don't set him up with a routine.

He enjoys walks, rides nicely in the car, and is overall a well behaved little boy. He just recently had a dental and had 1 tooth extracted. The rest are now shiny bright and new!

Because Pops is sensitive to loud noises and high energy, he is not a good fit for homes with young children, especially toddlers, babies, and high energetic kids who would just want to hug him and kiss him. He will run and hide. He prefers calm environments and people who respect his space and gentle nature.

Pops isn’t your average dog, and that’s exactly what makes him so special. He'd be a good fit for a first time dog owner who doesn't mind that everyone has their quirks, someone who either works from home or someone who works full time. He's easy and is more cat than dog. He’s the kind of little companion whose habits, expressions, and personality will become stories you laugh about and cherish for years to come. For the right person, Pops will be an unforgettable best friend.
