Poppy's Story

Poppy is not the loudest dog in the room. She’s the one who makes the room feel better. She doesn’t rush attention or demand it. She just… shows up. Calm. Present. Somehow already settled at your side before you realize you needed her there. She has a way of moving through life without chaos — observant, gentle, and confident in a very unflashy way. Poppy is social and friendly, but not frantic. She enjoys playtime, other dogs, and being included, but she doesn’t live in a constant state of overstimulation. She’s the kind of dog who reads the room. She waits her turn. She is observant. She chooses connection and loves hard. She’s grown up with consistent care and structure since the day she was born, and it shows in her confidence and adaptability. Poppy has a solid foundation, good manners, and an easygoing temperament. She fits into real life and can be taken places like dog-friendly patios, stores, and outdoor activities (including kayaking! Even though she did fall off the first time lol). She’s steady, affectionate without being clingy, playful without being overwhelming, and calm without being shut down. Poppy came into our rescue as a newborn in early April 2025, part of a litter of 8 born to a stray mom underneath drainage culverts in a rural area. Her mom and all of her littermates have been adopted. Poppy is the last one still waiting — not because there’s anything missing, but because sometimes the quiet, solid ones take a little longer to be noticed. Thank you for your interest in adopting from 7 Pups from the Pines. Every animal in our care matters to us—deeply. This isn’t just about finding homes. It’s about finding the right home for the dog, based on who they are and what they need. The Process • To begin, fill out our adoption questionnaire. It’s not a test—it’s just the first step toward understanding what you’re looking for and whether we might have a dog who could be a good fit. • We’ll review your application and follow up if we believe there’s a possible match. This is a conversation, not an interrogation. We want to get to know you and help you get to know the dog. • If it still feels like a good fit after that, we’ll set up a Meet & Greet so you and the dog can interact and spend some time together. Depending on the situation, it might happen at your home, the foster’s home, or sometimes a neutral spot. • If both sides are interested in moving forward, we’ll send you a copy of our adoption contract to review and allow each party time to thoughtfully consider the decision. • When finalizing the adoption, we’ll either deliver the dog to your home or—if you’re outside our area—we may ask you to travel to us, depending on the situation. We’ll then sign the contract, provide their records, and hand off any supplies or comfort items that belong to the dog. What We Consider We review applications on a case by case basis. The right fit depends entirely on the individual dog and their needs. What works for one won’t work for another, and we take that seriously. Some dogs need fenced yards. Some don’t. Some are great with kids or cats. Others aren’t. We’re not looking for a perfect home—we’re looking for the right home. For puppies, we typically don’t approve placements where they’ll be left alone for long stretches of the day on a regular basis. Early socialization and structure are crucial. What We Expect We expect that every dog adopted from 7 Pups will: • Live primarily indoors as a member of the family— not in a garage, on a chain, or in the yard. • Receive consistent vet care, including heartworm prevention, vaccinations, and treatment for injury or illness. • Have access to clean water, good food, safe shelter, and daily exercise. • Be returned to us if you can’t keep them. We don’t allow rehoming through friends, Craigslist, or anywhere else. They come back to us—no exceptions. If you have other pets, they must be spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm prevention unless there’s a valid medical reason.
