POPE's Story
?? Meet Pope! ?? Pope is a striking, 1-year-old husky mix who’s looking for a second chance at happiness. Before coming to the shelter, Pope lived his life as a stray—wild and free. His finder described him as friendly, great with their children, and wonderful with their other dog. Out in the world, Pope’s gentle and social nature truly shone. But life in the shelter has been challenging for Pope. While he’s still a sweet and friendly guy, the shelter environment makes him nervous and less outgoing than he was as a free spirit. We’re not advocating for Pope to wander the streets again, but we do wish for him to find a loving home where he can rediscover the joys of outdoor adventures and finally leave the stress of shelter life behind. Here at the shelter, Pope is working on learning to walk on a leash. The busy, unfamiliar environment can make him anxious, and sometimes he’ll flatten himself to the ground when his leash is put on. Pope needs a patient, understanding owner who can help him build trust and confidence at his own pace. With gentle encouragement and time, we know Pope will blossom into the happy, adventurous companion he’s meant to be. If you’re ready to open your heart and home to a handsome, sensitive soul, come meet Pope at the shelter (??430 Bristol Dr., Statesville, NC). He’s waiting for his forever family—could that be you?
