Popcorn's Story

About Popcorn
Status: Available
Breed: Aussiedoodle
Gender: Neutered Male
DOB: 05/02/2025
LOCATION: Hilham, TN
WEIGHT: 42lbs
COAT: Rough Coat
COLOR: Tri Colored
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active Companion

Meet Popcorn!

Popcorn was picked up as a stray and held by a good Samaritan; this person kept him safe while trying to find his owners but was not able to provide as much socialization as a puppy really needs. Nevertheless, Popcorn is a happy boy who is quick to make friends with all the people.

Popcorn is smart! He listens well and loves to work for treats. He’s conquered: no, come, and sit and he’s still working on stay and down. Popcorn walks well on a leash as long as the human on the other end is prepared for the unexpected: squirrels, new mailbox, the neighbor’s inflatable Santa decoration. He was an absolute pro at the groomers earning a “good boy” rating by all. See here: Grooming Post. He loves plush toys and soft beds. He doesn’t have much use for hard toys but does like his Kong.

Popcorn loves playing tug with his foster sibling and having a fenced yard for the zoomies! He loves love more than anything else – bully rubs and chin scratches most of all!

Due to the lack of early socialization, Popcorn can be a little reactive. Usually he just barks at the new thing and is easily re-directed, but he will lunge at a new dog. As he’s interacting with more and more new things, people, places and animals, Popcorn is continuously gaining confidence and settling down, but a new home will probably kick some of this reactivity off again. His new people need to be patient and prepared to work through this. The good news is that he’s quite a soft dog and takes correction and redirection really well!

Until his DNA results come in, we can’t guarantee his breed make up – although everyone from the vet to the groomer seems to think he’s an aussiedoodle. Also, at 7 months old, he’s already 42 pounds and may get a little larger. He’s strong and sturdy and probably not suitable for small children. He has not been cat tested.

The ideal home should have a fenced yard. The sniffer is strong on this pooch, and I think he’d follow his nose into trouble – great for those into scentwork sports, not so good for an inattentive owner with no fencing. Popcorn would be fine as an only dog as long as the owner’s were willing to provide plenty of stimulation. He really loves people more than dogs anyway, but we’d love to see him adopted by someone committed to continuing his socialization with frequent outings and formalized training. Right now, Popcorn is living the good life with a human who is home nearly all the time and a dog sibling so we cannot guarantee how well he’ll fair if he’s crated eight hours a day.

If you are the perfect forever home for Popcorn please fill out an application and contact his foster parents at hikeswithdogs4fun@outlook.com. BRBCR’s approval process includes phone interviews, reference checks, and a home visit prior to meeting a foster dog. Approved applicants must meet at the foster dog’s location. Every adoption begins with a 2-week trial period.

Popcorn’s adoption fee is $350.

Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
