Poole's Story

Poole A183605
37 lb male approx 10 months old

💙This timid boy would benefit greatly in a foster home or with an adopter willing to take things slow!

💙He was very nervous to be leashed but then came out nicely. He had many struggles in the hallway with obstacles like people, mops, etc. We didn't even bother going outside and went straight to the photo room. He needed a lot of encouragement to enter through the door.

💙Once we got in, I just sat right on the floor and he stood in the center of the blanket area completely frozen for several minutes. He finally started moving around a little bit as I threw treats. He takes them very gently. That is a good way to make friends with him!

💙Although he was frozen with his tail tucked, he allowed me to gently pick him up and place him onto my lap. From there I gave him some pets and snuggles and he was super tolerant and seem to actually enjoy it. Once I stopped he stayed put for a while even though he had free rain to get up and leave. I then just ignored him and he got up and started wandering and exploring the room a little.

💙He's definitely starting to open up. He has no idea what to think of toys, or just about anything at the moment. 😞 He's just a baby who needs a quiet place to start to feel safe and learn how to dog.

Update:
💙With more time spent together, he's starting to open up a little. I started play bowing at him and he reciprocated and tried playing with me. (See videos) We decided he would probably do good with another dog to show him the ropes. He went into a play group and perked up and was having fun playing and just being "a dog" 😄
*Please keep in mind that decompression and slow intros are still a must! Things need to go very slow for him to succeed! But he's making progress!

Unknown behavior with dogs/cats/kids

*Meet all of our adoptable pets on our website friendsofdacc.org/adopt

*Please keep in mind that the shelter can be a very stressful environment.

*Studies show that a minimum of 3 days decompression drastically lower stress hormones and allow the dog to show more personality after they have settled in.

*There is a suggested donation of $100 for our dogs, payable by cash, check or through paypal at the time of the adoption.

*To meet them please go to front door and a DACC staff member will assist you with adoption or fostering.

**And when coming to meet one of our dogs, please bring all the humans with you, but leave any current dogs at home. Staff will go over how to slowly and properly introduce them after a decompression period.**

*The shelter is open 7 days a week from 10:30-5:30

**1431 E Ferry St. Detroit
