Poly's Story
Poly has had her eye surgery and her right eye now has 25% vision. She is blind in her left eye. She is about 5 months old now.

Meet Poly aka Polly (female)!!

Roly & Poly’s story:

On May 27th, two newborn puppies were discovered on a remote rural road by a mail carrier in MS. Just 10 days old, they were far too young to survive on their own. The mail carrier couldn't care for them, so she posted online asking for help. By late afternoon, no one had stepped up, until our amazing rescuer Stacey offered to meet her at the vet's office.
As the puppies were handed over, the heartbreaking truth became clear: both had maggots in their eyes. At the ER, Roly's eyes were cleaned and began to heal, but Polly's condition was so severe that euthanasia was recommended.
Instead, Stacy chose to fight for them both.
Day after day, they were bottle-fed, medicated, and given every chance to live. Slowly, their ears opened and their tiny bodies grew stronger. Roly regained some vision, able to see light and shadows. Polly showed no response to light at all, yet her spirit never dimmed. She hopped, ran, and bounced her way through life with fearless joy.
After being transported up to Lucky Dog Refuge, they were seen by Dr. Wilcox @vca.vrec . He discovered that Polly, who we believed was completely blind, actually has partial vision.
She was diagnosed with a rare condition called Symblepharon, caused by an abnormal conjunctival healing process that leads to adhesions between the bulbar (eyeball) and palpebral (eyelid) conjunctiva. Polly would only be the second reported case of this condition, and Dr. Wilcox will be performing the surgery. What we once thought would require removing both of Polly's eyes may now be avoided altogether!
Roly is playful and affectionate, while Polly is cuddly, independent, and unstoppable. Their journey shows exactly why we transport: because it gives dogs with the toughest starts in life access to advanced veterinary care, healing, hope, and a future.

Polly is now ready to find her furever home! Polly’s surgery will be covered by Lucky Dog Refuge and is scheduled for October. Her prognosis after surgery is that she will be a dog with full sight.

*TO APPLY GO TO www.LuckyDogRefuge.com*
(Petfinder messages will not be seen)

NOTE: We do not know the exact breeds of our dogs; any mention of breeds are best guesses and not guaranteed.
No dog is going to be perfectly housebroken when they go to a new home. They are accustomed to the routine of the shelter and will need to learn the new routine in their new environment. They will need your patience as they might have some accidents in the home while they get adjusted.

YOU CAN ALSO APPLY VIA THE DIRECT LINK BELOW.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeU6eaT2iuiVIh1drpbr3DaeINNSs5z9MKV4DwY7SRt4XEUSg/viewform

Thanks for considering a rescue pup!
