Polly Parton's Story

Polly Parton is a sweet, happy, lovable, entertaining, tiny gal, only 9 lbs., around 2 years old, who was found as a stray. She is fond of attention and enjoys being pet, brushed, belly rubs, and being carried around. She wasn’t sure what to do with toys at first, but now entertains herself batting them around and chewing on Bam Bones and Nylabones. Her name refers to her “singing” abilities, which is rather amusing.

Polly Parton has a gorgeous, shiny, chocolate brown coat with a lot of copper. Interestingly, she doesn’t seem to shed! Although she resembles a Chiweenie, she may be mixed with a low shedding breed, such as Maltese, Poodle, or perhaps a terrier.

Polly tested positive for Parvo when she arrived. She has made a great deal of progress with her recovery, and should be done with quarantine around October 21st. She is eager to meet her foster siblings and try leash walking, among many other things. Cats are unknown. She would probably do well with older children, as well as other small dogs.

She is currently using puppy pads, and consistently goes in the same area. She will begin house training soon. With a consistent schedule, and positive reinforcement, she should take cues from the resident dogs and master it. The transition to her forever family should be an easy one.

*Polly is in a foster home in Dunkirk. Meet & Greets can be arranged after October 21st for approved applicants.

*Approved applicants are welcome to participate in our popular Slumber Party program and take a dog home for up to 2 weeks to make sure she is a great fit.

If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application at www.caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again when you see another dog that interests you.

If you have a question, please email us at adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email, as we receive many phone calls.

We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopters must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.

*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide. If they are incorrect, we will not be able to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone, so advise your references that there may be an unknown or private number calling them. Thank you!
