Polly's Story

Dog Name: Polly
Age: 2
Gender: Female
Breed: Pit mix
Weight: 40lbs
Crate trained: Yes
Potty trained: Yes
Dog friendly: Yes
Cat friendly: Unknown
Kid friendly: Likely (older)
Vaccinated: Yes
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Heartworm: Negative
Microchipped: Yes
Energy level: Low to medium

What is the key to this dog's heart? Toys, toys, and more toys! Toys are definitely Polly's love language. She chews them, throws them, digs at them, runs with them, and puts 2-3 in her mouth at a time. They go with her to bed, outside, in her food bowl, and even in the water bowl. She's happy to play with a human or a dog friend, or to play by herself. Besides toys, here are some other reasons you might want to make Polly Pocket your new friend:

-Good Manners! She is fully house trained, crate trained, and non-destructive
-Smart! She knows sit, stay, and paw, and quickly picks up routines
-She's got the moves! Tails wags, runs like a deer, expert yoga moves, sploots galore
-Very self sufficient! She can easily entertain herself with toys or lay down so that you can get work done

As we know with most rescue dogs, they come with a past. For full transparency, Polly's past was not good. I don't know what it was, but it definitely left some damage. She has made tremendous progress with me but here are a few struggles and quirks that her new people should be aware of:

-Rain? Snow? Active thunder/lightning? No problem! Polly will voluntarily venture outside into those to potty. She even prefers to be outside in the dark. But, garbage day is by far her least favorite day of the week. No other cars or trucks phase her, but those garbage trucks really give her a run for her money.
-Does not clean up her toys. Your house will always be decorated with lots of toys and stuffing
-She's a definite homebody. Her house/yard is her safe space, and venturing outside of those areas is not her vibe.
-In addition to traditional toys, Polly likes the power drill, vacuum, leaf blower, etc and thinks they are toys (she hasn't chewed them, but needs to be watched so she doesn't get hurt). She will not go chew them when they are off, nor will she chew up anything else in your house as she really is fully housebroken and non-destructive
-Polly can take a minute to warm up to strangers, but has made many strangers her friends. Small social circles are her preference. My contractor is one of her favorite people now - once a stranger, but he has treats and power tools, so he quickly became a good friend
-Miss Pocket is not a fan of carrots, celery, or cucumber, but does like select fruits and loves deli meat and cheese

In summary, Polly Pocket is a very sweet, happy, playful girl. She had a rough past and is still coming out of her shell, but fully trusts me and I want to see her do the same in a forever home. She would do well with other dogs or as a solo dog. Small children would not be ideal as they might be grabby and would likely have a larger social circle than she would like. A fenced yard is a must to make her feel secure. She really is an extremely easy dog that I enjoy fostering and can't wait to see her find her perfect new family!

If you're interested in meeting Polly, please fill out an application at the link below.

https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DHDN/Dog
