Pokey's Story

Pokey is a 4-year-old, 105-pound Great Pyrenees who spent his life getting bounced from one farm to another because he has absolutely no aptitude for guarding sheep. Somewhere along the way, someone might have considered asking Pokey about his career goals. They involve being petted. The sheep need to make other arrangements.

He arrived matted to the skin, so his current outfit is the result of a necessary full shave. When his coat grows back, he will be a drop-dead gorgeous, mega-woolly Pyr. He is already seriously handsome. He is just temporarily operating without the upholstery.

Pokey loves people and wants to hang out wherever they are, preferably within petting distance. He has lived with young children and has excellent manners with them. He is housebroken, very chill and fine with cats. Other dogs do not particularly interest him, and he would prefer to be your only dog. He has put in enough time being assigned things he did not ask for.

His ideal home has a fenced yard where he can sniff all the things, followed by a back deck with a sunbeam suitable for a lengthy nap. His two customary speeds are sloth and comatose. He is capable of a significant burst of speed, but he would need to see a compelling reason.

If you want a sweet, substantial companion with lovely manners and very little interest in productivity, Pokey would like to discuss retirement at your house. Please have a place to sit and both hands available.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please apply online, at https://bigfluffydogs.com/dog-adoption/ and email kayla@bigfluffydogs.com. Our main website, www.bigfluffydogs.com has more information about us and the rescue process. Pokey is in Nashville, but BFDR has established transport networks and foster homes across most of the eastern United States, so this dog can be safely and comfortably transported to approved adopters in your area.

NOTE TO EMAILERS FROM PETFINDER: UNLESS YOU FILL OUT AN APPLICATION, WE DO NOT KNOW YOU OFFICIALLY EXIST. Please be sure to do the application in addition to emailing the coordinator as the application will get a response.

All known information about an individual dog is provided in its listing. We do our best to provide accurate information, but adopters should understand that each home is different and the dog may behave differently in a new home. Dogs are creatures of their environment and you help make the dog what it will be.
