Pixie is currently in a foster home recovering from surgery.<br/><br/>UPDATE 8/30/26 - Pixie underwent an "external liver shunt repair" on August 27th, 2026 at Veterinary Care and Specialty Group (VCSG) after a CT revealed this congenital issue. Her surgeon specializes in these kinds of conditions and travels all of the US to perform them. A liver shunt is a serious condition that prevents her liver from filtering her blood and thus causing toxins to be released right in to her body. Her symptoms were frequent thirst, urination, and eventually weight loss and weakness causing her to stagger in the last couple of weeks. Now that surgery is complete, she can focus on healing, getting stronger, and just being a dog! <br/><br/>If you are able, please donate towards Pixie's medical costs. We spent over $3000 diagnosing the issue and now over $7000 for the surgery itself which is a significant cost for our small shelter. We are very thankful that we could help her and hope to continue being able to help other with Special Needs. <br/><br/>Donate HERE: https://petplacementcenter.charityproud.org/Donate<br/><br/><br/>UPDATE: 7/23/26 - After lab work and a CT at VSCG, we now know that Pixie has an external liver shunt which is an "abnormal blood vessel that causes blood from the digestive tract to bypass the liver instead of passing through it to be filtered." Fortunately, it can be fixed with surgery which is now scheduled August 27th, 2026. For now, she is on a liver diet, but once she recovers from surgery, her liver with function again and she can return to a normal diet. We will keep you udpated!<br/><br/>Pixie is a 2 year old Terrier mix that weighs 32 pounds and came in from McKamey Animal Center to help with their shelter's overcrowding. We are unsure exactly what her breeds are, but she is definitelly an adorable mix! She has already gone out on a group walk and did great when meeting other dogs and new people.
