Pixie's Story

Meet Pixie, a 13-year-old sweetheart with a heart as big as her gentle eyes. This precious senior doesn't seem to know she isn't a puppy! Her endearing little tongue often peeks out – a result of having no teeth – giving her the most adorable, permanently cheeky expression.

Pixie has also faced IVDD in the past, which leaves her back legs a bit wobbly. She still walks and enjoys her surroundings, but she does things at her own careful pace. She is on anti-inflammatory and started laser and acupuncture to help her regain strength..

Pixie arrived with her brother Charlie, who is also 13. These two have been companions who find comfort and joy in each other’s company but unfortunately, Charlie has cancer and doesn't have much time left.

Pixie is looking for a special adopter who has other little dogs with can play and interact with. She's hoping for a home filled with kindness, where she can enjoy cozy naps, cuddles, and can spend quality time with her person.

If you’re someone who believes in giving senior dogs the dignity, comfort, and love they deserve, Pixie would love to meet you and your family. She may be older, but her heart is forever young!

Please note that for most of our dogs we are require a home and a fenced yard. Portland Dachshund Rescue, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
OUR CRITERIA There's nothing better than a successful match. We like to explain the process of finding the right rescue dog as being similar to online dating: You will want to check our site often to see who is new, read each bio and reach out if you think they might have found someone special. Our adoption team is highly skilled at helping you find a dog with the right personality that will fit your family and lifestyle. Occasionally, we receive multiple promising applications for a dog and ultimately match the dog with the home where we think they will do best. We are committed to helping you find a dog even if you don't "match" on your first attempt. We would love nothing more than to help you find the forever dog of your dreams. Although we like to tailor each match, we do have some basic criteria we look with respect to adoptive homes: *Homes should be non-smoking *Have a securely fenced yard *Ability to commit to yearly dentals and shots for the pet *Willingness to purchase ramps and pet stairs to safeguard the dog's back
